BMO FINANCIAL GROUP CANADIAN WOMEN'S OPEN

July 12, 2003

Se Ri Pak

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Q. We'd like to welcome Se Ri Pak to the interview room. 68 today. You really took advantage of those par 5s, 5 under on the par 5s. You're 4 under overall and there's a lot of golf to be played on that course today. So you got to be liking where you are right now. Tell us about that.

SE RI PAK: Well I thought it was a great round today. I was struggling for the first two days. I missed every fairway, every green. I mean it was a tough up and down every single hole. And then I did practice after the round a lot at the end of the day. And so then it got better and better. I feel great today at the golf course. I feel solid. And I hit the right kind of tee shots and it stayed pretty much in the fairway and I didn't miss much on the greens. Everything feels really great. So it was pretty exciting and I enjoyed it a lot today.

Q. Are you happy? You can hear it's coming down again. Were you happy to get done and get in here today?

SE RI PAK: Oh, yeah, definitely very happy about that. It was very tough out there. Especially with the rain delay and that. The tee time was so late too. And then somehow it looks like it was going to be a pretty long day and then still I had 6 holes to go and that kind of made it hard on myself to hang in there. I mean it was a long day, raining, the golf course is tough and then we get wet. I don't think it was fun. But I would say that I was glad to finish today and finish well. So that means it's pretty good.

Q. The greens have been really fast the first two rounds and Beth Daniel was talking about it a little bit earlier, the fact that the rain came down to slow it down, did that almost help you?

SE RI PAK: No, I think that it doesn't I don't think it's any different speed wise. The problem is with uphill is going to be a little slower. But I don't see any big difference. I don't think anything changed at all. The fairways kind of a little wet, but greens are still really great shape and fast. So I really like the fast greens. I really didn't have a problem with that.

Q. Just a follow up, why were you so much better today?

SE RI PAK: Well I was having fun today. I think that first two rounds I missed a lot of shots, on tee shots like I said earlier, on my iron shots. For some reason, I don't know why, it kept missing left and right. It was hard to control myself. But today it got back to normal. I was much straighter and then pretty much with a short iron in my hand I got to the greens. I had a lot of opportunities to make birdie up there. I mean this sort of thing I feel much better than the first two days, I think.

Q. Do you think it will soften up by tomorrow?

SE RI PAK: Depends how much is the rain we get tonight. Like right now it's a perfect condition out there. But if it's going to be much more raining, probably much more softer. So, well, it's going to be another different day probably tomorrow, I guess.

Q. Did you ever play this late normally on the LPGA Tour, like the leaders will go at 2:35 tomorrow afternoon, if there is no rain delay.

SE RI PAK: Well, we not usually play that late tee times. Other than U.S. Open. It's always there a late tee time. But I don't think that we usually play this late tee times. But it's kind of hard for us. It's kind of long day all morning and then all afternoon just spending it at the golf course. It's pretty tough.

Q. The tournaments that you won this year I think you shot 7 under and 9 under in the final day. Are you ready to go tomorrow and be aggressive?

SE RI PAK: Yes, I'm pretty much ready to go. Looks like I'm pretty much every week it feels like I'm ready to go. But it just is golf. Sometimes you have a good day and then next day is a bad day, but, who knows. But I feel great today. I feel a lot of confidence going to tomorrow. So I'm ready.

Q. Get a comment from you, the success of Korean ladies here on the Tour in the last couple of years, could you make a comment why there's so many doing so well?

SE RI PAK: Well, I think that growing up it was different conditions than the LPGA players. We having hard time to find great golf course to practice or play out there even on the range. I mean so many things we don't have much time for us to use to get use to the feel of the greens and the grass and everything. But most I think they play really well because they came here and they learn a lot for themself. Basically the golf here never ends. So you learn every week, every day. You get here, still you have to learn more. But I think that they find out that the game on the LPGA, how good they play, worldwide players and at the same time they got a lot of confidence for them themselves. So after all I think they pretty much, they pretty much enjoyed it themselves too, being here and playing and they learn and for awhile, I mean I think mentally it's a big difference. Mentally they get stronger, that's why they so much better than he they were in Korea, I guess.

Q. Is it just difficult to get better at home you don't have the golf courses to train on?

SE RI PAK: Well we have a lot of golf courses, but a lot of private golf courses. So we don't have any place that we practice for our self. You don't have any time for private practice for the players. Here, you can go out there and find any golf course you want to play and everybody wants to help the players or junior golf, so many perfect conditions and places to play, right. But our country is pretty much, all the golf courses is private. The first time have you a hard time to find a tee time for us and then range is always packed. So it's just a big difference.
