MLB WORLD SERIES: GIANTS v ANGELS

October 20, 2002

Francisco Rodriguez

ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA: Game Two

THE MODERATOR: This is Frankie Rodriguez here with Bobby Ramos, who will translate for him if necessary. We'll take the first question for Frank.

Q. Frankie, you've had to pitch an awful lot. Tonight, three innings, you pitched great. How far do you think you can go? How often do you think you can pitch without it affecting you physically?

FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ: (Through Bobby Ramos) Last year in the Minor Leagues he was a starter, and he could go four, five innings very easily right now. Whatever the club needs, he'll do it. He's capable of doing it.

Q. Frankie, where were you when Salmon hit the home run? Dugout, clubhouse? What was your reaction on that?

FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ: I was in the dugout, I start jumping around, excited (smiling).

Q. Is it tough coming into a game like that with all the offense and all the hitting? Does it make you more determined to shut the other team down?

FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ: No, it's something like -- I'm not gonna say for me it's easy, because there are tough situations. They bring me for trying to keep the score the same. We battle and we score a run back and we win the game.

Q. I think that was one of the best exhibitions of control in a World Series game, something like 26 pitches and 22 strikes.

FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ: Yeah, I was focused, trying to keep the ball down and go ahead in the count. Then go right after the guy with my fastball and try to put them away with my breaking ball.

Q. Last year, Francisco's grandparents were with him in Venezuela watching the World Series on TV. He was thinking about maybe making it some time. This year, it happened. Tell us about it.

FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ: Something incredible, especially when last year I was with my mom and dad and my brothers back home watching the World Series. It's funny because I told my mom, "Hey, one of those days I'm gonna be there." Finally, it's kind of like a dream come true doing it the next year.

Q. This is your first World Series game. You weren't nervous at all? You were excited?

FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ: No, just adrenaline. I never got nervous. You never have to say never, but in my case, I can say I just try to go out there, have fun and enjoy the game.
