Alan Cooper

Maria Miarchos-Gouce

Thierry Thulliez

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS

ERIC WING: We're now joined in the interview room by the winning connections of the Netjets Breeders' Cup mile DOMEDRIVER the winner, of course, and left to right is Maria Miarchos-Gouce; in the middle Pascal Bary the winning trainer and on his right Alan Cooper, the racing marker for the Niarchos Family. First of all, is what I heard correct, Maria, that you watched the race -- did not watch the race, I should say, being stuck in an elevator?

MARIA MIARCHOS-GOUCE: We were all stuck in an elevator.

ERIC WING: All three of you?

MARIA MIARCHOS-GOUCE: No, all our group, so we didn't see the race. We still haven't seen the race, but we heard we won.

ERIC WING: Pascal, this is your second Breeders' Cup winner from six starts, seems like you specialize in long-shots. Your other winner was MISS ALLEGED back in 1991. That one paid 86.20. Today only $54 on the winning mutual, but since Maria didn't get to see the race, how would you have described it to her, that powerful burst down the stretch by DOMEDRIVER?

PASCAL BARY: Before the race I think we have a very good number with No. 5, and just keeping behind her, and I'm not sure we can take any risk and --

ERIC WING: I didn't realize you were joining us, Thierry, Thierry actually, one for one in his career in the Breeders' Cup. That will be a hard percentage to maintain, but congratulations. While a lot was made or has been made so far of ROCK OF GIBRALTAR having perhaps not the ideal trip starting too slowly to make his move and losing ground wide, you seemed to give DOMEDRIVER an outstanding trip. Were there any difficult decisions during the course of the race that you had to make?

THIERRY THULLIEZ: I'm sure I speak very bad English. I know is my horse like the race very spirited and today in her last turn ROCK OF GIBRALTAR very outside. I have a good race in the last race. I think he like finish in 200 meters and today very strong finish.

ERIC WING: Thierry, you know that much is going to be made of perhaps the best horse didn't win. Looking from the replay it looked like you could have continued racing for quite some distance and they might very well not have passed you anyway. Is that your impression, as well, or was he getting to you at the end?

THIERRY THULLIEZ: I think today the winner is the best.

ERIC WING: A question for Pascal or Alan. Pascal, you trained SULAMANI, a fast-closing second in New York, and people expected you to -- thought that the horse might come over. Of course he was sold, but would you have brought him over if you had your druthers? What was the decision to bring --

PASCAL BARY: We decided not to run the horse anymore this year, so the horse has been sold. Even if he had not been sold he would not have been here coming in.

ERIC WING: Now, DOMEDRIVER looked very formidable on paper. Were any of you surprised by the rather high odds of 26 to 1, the lack of respect in the American people?

PASCAL BARY: In our view it was 12 to 1. He was the favorite in the past.

ERIC WING: Any questions from the four up front?

Q. Pascal, this horse had talent right along. What slowed down him so that he's a four-year old before he wins his first graded race?

PASCAL BARY: Last year he won the regional in his group, and we took him to Rome to run in a group one, and this day it was very warm and he -- the horse needed a long time to recover and I think this year he's much more mature.

ERIC WING: Any additional questions?

MARIA MIARCHOS-GOUCE: Thank you very much.

Q. Any decision or thoughts on whether DOMEDRIVER will stay in training next year?

ALAN COOPER: Not yet, but before the race we were definitely considering it. Let's get home and make our plans.
