MIAMI OPEN PRESENTED BY ITAú

March 21, 2025

Iga Swiatek

Miami, Florida, USA

Press Conference

I. SWIATEK/C. Garcia

6-2, 7-5

THE MODERATOR: Iga, congratulations. Obviously a little bit trickier than last tournament at Indian Wells facing off against Garcia. Tell us your keys to the match today.

IGA SWIATEK: Well, for sure I started with big confidence. Second set I let Caro come back to the game a little bit. My energy level went down, so I just tried to pump myself up again and be more intense and more proactive.

I'm happy that I did that at the end of the second set.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. Considering that you played her at Indian Wells, I'm curious how much the differing conditions, how much you felt the different conditions out there? And does it make a difference in how you play her?

IGA SWIATEK: The tactics was kind of the same, because our game styles are the same. But for sure the way you play changes a bit. Yeah, I mean, the ball bounces lower here, for sure, and the air also is not that dynamic. Yeah, I feel like I have to be ready for a little bit faster game and be even lower on my legs.

But that's going to be the case against every player, not only Caro. But I wouldn't say there was much difference. The only difference is, yeah, I let her come back to the game in the second set a little bit.

Q. Do you have any thoughts on the big news story of the week about the possible action?

IGA SWIATEK: The what, sorry?

Q. Possible legal action being taken by PTPA.

IGA SWIATEK: Honestly, I don't have any thoughts, because I wasn't really involved or asked. So I wasn't really aware of the action, you know, before. I kind of only know what you guys know, what everybody knows from the media.

You know, everybody kind of knows my views in terms of even on the things that are in the lawsuit, because I have been vocal about it before. But, like, nothing changes for me.

So yeah. I wasn't really in the topic, in this topic at all.

Q. Going along those lines, I'm curious if you have, like, maybe one major issue that you think tennis should change like right away, or what's the biggest change that you think needs to be made? If one outcome could come out of this lawsuit, what would you like it to be?

IGA SWIATEK: Well, for sure the season is super long. I have been speaking about it before, that playing for 11 months is pretty crazy. I think tennis fans would be interested as much or even more if the season was a bit shorter. It would be maybe a bit easier to follow everything.

Yeah, I mean, 11 months is unnecessary and it's too much (smiling). Yeah, I mean, that was probably always my biggest thing I was talking about.
