LIV GOLF SINGAPORE

March 14, 2025

Dustin Johnson

Republic of Singapore

Sentosa Golf Club

4Aces GC

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome our leader, Dustin Johnson, captain of 4Aces GC. Well played today, 8-under par round to shoot 63 in the opening round of LIV Golf Singapore presented by Aramco. Talk us through your round today. What clicked for you today?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Kind of everything. Obviously when you shoot 8-under, you've got to be doing everything well. But drove it well, hit a lot of really nice iron shots, and then holed a few putts.

The greens are really good, so as long as you kind of get it in the range where you can make some, you hit good putts, they're going in. It was just a really solid day. Kind of gave myself a lot of opportunities and never really got out of position.

Q. 4Aces are also leading the team charge at 14-under par. As a team you've been on a winless drought since LIV Golf London in 2023. What would a win mean for you this week?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, it would be great. The team has been playing pretty solid. I struggled the first couple events but feel like the game is in good form, and excited, obviously, for this week. Obviously got off to a good start.

But yeah, the team, we're all playing well enough where we can get it done, but obviously we've still got two more days and we need to all four play really solid the next couple days.

Q. What do you think was the key to your strong start?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Just obviously had a really good practice week leading into the tournament. I was swinging it really well. I just kind of kept it going. Just hit a lot of really good golf shots and took advantage of the par-5s and then holed a couple -- made a couple long putts, which obviously always helps. I mean, that was kind of the key was I rolled the putter really nice.

Q. I guess the putting was the strongest part of your game?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I mean, I putted well today. I put a lot of work in the last couple days on the putter, and it paid off.

Q. Just wondering if there was any change from last week to this week in terms of performance-wise. It seems like you did pretty well today. Did anything change from Hong Kong?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: No, nothing changed. Hong Kong, I actually had really good practice leading into Hong Kong, and then it felt like I was swinging real well. Woke up Friday morning and I don't know if it was a rib out or something was in my right shoulder, and then I wasn't swinging really well on Friday and Saturday.

Then kind of loosened up, and I swung a little bit better on Sunday. Then kind of obviously kept that going through this week. But yeah, nothing changed, other than I feel like I'm swinging a little better. Body is moving better.

Q. When you woke up you said Friday morning, how exactly stiff was it? How would you describe the injury?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Well, I couldn't turn my head to the right, so it was more -- it kind of just pulled when I was on the through swing, so I was hitting everything left. It wasn't a whole lot of fun.

Q. What did you do Sunday and what have you done this week to --

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Just worked on it on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, and then it finally kind of loosened up on Sunday.

Q. Because of that, because of the injury, was it easy to just essentially dismiss the result from last week from your standpoint?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, because I felt like I was swinging good leading into Friday, and then obviously Friday, Saturday didn't swing it that well, and then swung it really nicely on Sunday. It was just, obviously, the body loosened back up and I could hit the shots that I wanted to.

Q. Can you also talk about your putter? I think maybe you've gone back and forth a couple of times with what you're using.

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Not really. I've putted with this one pretty much the whole time. I used a different one on Friday of the first round in Hong Kong. But I've been putting with this one for a while. It's just a Spider.

But yeah, just worked a lot on the putting the last few days and rolled some nice putts in today.

Q. Obviously you've had this incredible streak where you've won an event basically every year since you've played. You got it out of the way early last year in Vegas. Just curious what that actually means to you. Does it mean much? How nice would it be to kind of knock that out again this year early in March?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Well, yeah, it's always -- especially with the strength of field that we have out here. It's really hard to win. Anytime you can get a win, no matter when it is, it's always good.

Yeah, obviously winning every single year I've been on Tour, obviously I'm really proud of it, just as far as keeping my game at a high level for such a long period of time.
