Quick Quotes
Q. Okay, here with Auston Kim after her second round at the Honda LPGA Thailand. Amazing round today. Just talk through what really stuck out today for you?
AUSTON KIM: Yeah, I stayed really patient today. I didn't have a super hot start, but I definitely made a couple first six, seven holes and was making good putts and seeing good lines.
So I just stuck to it. I was hitting really good shots and I just stayed in the moment and that worked out pretty well.
Q. First time playing here, correct? What's it like to come to a new site and adjust and get the feel of things?
AUSTON KIM: Yeah, it's pretty interesting. Just, again, feel like a rookie again first time here, but not letting it be too much of a mental challenge.
It's like any other week. I map out the course. I have a plan. I'm just trying to make birdies, and it worked out. I love playing on bermuda, so it was a lot of fun.
Q. Some of these greens definitely look a little tricky just looking at 18 right there. How do you kind of combat that throughout the week and really stay patient?
AUSTON KIM: I think it's important that a lot of the pins out here you don't really have to go for them. Like if you're 30 feet away and just two-putt for par that is perfectly fine and you're probably gaining half a stroke on the field. People go for it and then you end up extremely short-sided.
It's important to be smart and leave about 20 foot putts. I have a lot of faith in the putter right now so I can make some good putts.
Q. That's good to hear. Is that something you work on a lot during the offseason?
AUSTON KIM: Yeah, just having more faith in myself, playing with more self-belief; also working on what's good and just trying to make it better every single day.
Q. Is there anything fun you did in the offseason? I saw fun pictures on Instagram here and there. Or what you enjoyed most about it I guess.
AUSTON KIM: I visit my sister up in Nashville and we went to Disney World together, so that was fun. We went for a couple days. By the third day we were really tired but it was a lot of fun.
Q. Second year out here now; no longer a rookie. What would you say is a general lesson you learned from last year?
AUSTON KIM: There were a lot of lessons last year, but I think it's important for me to remember that I'm out here for a reason. I earned my card. All the girls out here are really, really good.
For a person to earn their spot out here is a really big deal. For me to be playing here at a limited field event, it's something that I really cherish and very grateful for. Just got to believe in myself more.
