LIV GOLF ADELAIDE

February 16, 2025

Joaquin Niemann

Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

The Grange

Torque GC

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome the winner of LIV Golf Adelaide 2025, Joaquín Niemann. Joaquín, you had an amazing round today. You shot 7-under, finishing 13-under total for the tournament, three ahead of fellow teammate Carlos Ortiz. Tell us how you got this done.

JOAQUÍN NIEMANN: Yeah, it was obviously a long day, long, tough day. I knew I needed to do something special. I knew I obviously had the game right now, and I felt I was playing great, the way I played on Saturday.

Had that bad stretch during the middle of the round, so I needed to start somewhere by making a few birdies at the beginning, and I knew it was going to be tough with Abraham the way he's playing and Carlos how he's playing, as well. So I got it going at the beginning of the round, was able to keep it going during the day.

It just went my way, so it was pretty special.

Q. It's been a bit frenetic since you finished on 18. Have you had a moment just to realize that you just won?

JOAQUÍN NIEMANN: No. It was actually weird because I finished my round and I felt like I still hadn't won it yet because Abraham was one hole behind and was only one shot behind. Anything could happen on the 18th.

I felt like I was -- it's hard to explain. I feel like tomorrow I will understand it a little bit better, but I needed to have that feeling of winning, and I still was waiting and couldn't do anything about it.

After all, it felt great, so yeah.

Q. What is it about Australia? Obviously you won in Australia previously. Is it the style of the course? Is it the fans? What is it about it?

JOAQUÍN NIEMANN: Yeah, obviously the fans are amazing here. All the crowds, they are pretty good. They like Team Torque here. They like us. Being able to see some hats out there with our logo and some shirts and some people cheering for us, it was pretty special. We had a good day also for the team today. So it's been great, Australia.

Q. You've had two years of back-to-back incredible golf. You seem to be at the top of your game. What's going on that clicking so well that's causing you to win after win after win?

JOAQUÍN NIEMANN: I mean, I feel like that's what I work for. I mean, for me, the main goal is not here, it's looking way ahead. I feel like I've got so many years of golf and trying to get better, and I feel like these moments right now are big moments of learning, learning experience where I can improve my game.

The way I played today, I feel like it talks a lot on how I've been working, how I've been practicing. Being able to see those little steps forward all the time, it's always satisfying, and it makes me have more energy to go out tomorrow and get better again.

Q. Joaco, this is the second straight year you've had an early win in the season. Do you feel like your form is similar to last year? Do you feel like maybe you're in a better -- maybe a bit better right now?

JOAQUÍN NIEMANN: I feel it's better. I feel my game keeps improving. That's something that I keep seeing during my career, that it's improving every time. I feel like every time I get more experience, I think days like today makes me grow as a player. Yeah, I think there is a lot I have to take from today and learn from it because today was a really good day. If I could have these Sundays more often, chasing leaders, it would talk really good for my game.

Q. Five of the six guys at the top of the leaderboard were Spanish-speaking players. Does that mean anything? Do you feel like that fits you guys' game?

JOAQUÍN NIEMANN: I mean, I don't think it's much of a conscious. They are all really good players. Carlos has been playing amazing golf lately. I played with him on Saturday. He was playing great. Unfortunately he didn't have the best start today, but it could have been a strong finish for him.

You've got Abraham that is always a really solid player. I think this course really fits his game, the way he plays, and also you've got David Puig who has been playing -- I don't think anybody has better Sundays than him lately.

I mean, it's not conscious. It's all great players, and they're looking out there for more.

Q. I heard something on the broadcast about the Torque guys maybe getting mullets and mustaches for the week. Can you clarify that?

JOAQUÍN NIEMANN: You can't see the mustache. Yeah, it's something -- I think Mito started it because he's obviously the good-looking guy that he likes the mullet and everything. He can grow a mustache. He's like, why don't we do a mullet, so we're like, all right, we'll do it. I think me and Carlos doesn't have the mustache, but we've got the mullet. But yeah, it's something that we might keep doing every year.

Q. Was it something to appease the locals?

JOAQUÍN NIEMANN: Yeah, Australia, they all wear their mullet, so yeah, it was something for the people here and the crowd.
