Quick Quotes
Q. All right, Freddie, 66 today to open. Birdied holes 6 through 9. Just tell us about your round.
FREDDIE JACOBSON: Yeah, you know, it's one of those courses that if you can drive the ball well off the tee you're going to probably set yourself up with quite a few chances.
Also happy I found my rhythm a little bit more in practice yesterday, late yesterday. When it comes to the ball striking, communicating a little bit with (indiscernible), getting a little tip.
I was struggling a little last week and then it's a tricky course, but today I think I only missed one fairway so I really tried to focus on dialing in the fairways and putting good swings on it, and that gave me a lot of chances. Made a few.
Q. Do you think overall that style of course suits your game?
FREDDIE JACOBSON: Suits you when you hit it straight, right? I like the par-5s, you know, I was able to go for all of them today. You know, didn't take advantage of all of them, but it's nice having 3-irons, 5-woods, if drive it well. And then the par-4s, quite a lot of short irons I was driving it well, and also hitting quite a bit of 3-woods.
I thought I had plenty of chances. Only one or two missed out there, so good day overall.
Q. You were one of the five guys to earn your card via Q-School in December. How great is it to be out here on the Champions TOUR?
FREDDIE JACOBSON: Yeah, it was so nice to make that. You can plan your schedule a bit and get to play in blocks, rather than I was in a position where kind of ready golf, tough to plan, tough to book stuff.
This just gives you a chance to have a much better rhythm with everything. I'm really grateful that worked out end of last year. I'm glad I went and played well there.
Q. When you're driving it well, you talked about how this course is really narrow, do you find that helps the rest of your game, gets you in a flow and you can keep going?
FREDDIE JACOBSON: I think so. If you are swinging it well. I always try to -- the greens are kind of quite narrow some areas. Even take the 15-, 20-footers, try to hit to the fat part of the green when it's even 8-iron, 7-iron, 9-irons, just to continue and get a rhythm.
It's early in the year. I haven't played that much the last couple months. I just don't want to put myself in too many difficult spots. Last week, really tricky green areas. Hard to hit the greens. You know, you test yourself a little more than you want to the first week out.
So trying to find a little smoother ride this week.
Q. Just got one. Playing off what Connor just asked you, you're still new out here. How much anticipation did you have for the Champions TOUR as you were approaching your 50th birthday, and how relaxing is it to be back out here and see a lot of these guys that you haven't seen in so long?
FREDDIE JACOBSON: Yeah, it's been awesome to see everybody. You can tell guys are enjoying themselves a lot out there. But it's competitive. There are a lot of good players. You got to be on top of it.
It's earlier in the year, you got to -- especially now I'm living over in Sweden, it's a bit colder, you try to get in that bubble and find your rhythm your short game and get in a little bit, because you don't really have that day in, day out practice kind of situation.
So tried to get in a little early and do some extra work and know the courses also when you don't know them the first time. But a little bit on your (indiscernible) the first few weeks.
