LIV GOLF ADELAIDE

February 14, 2025

Bryson DeChambeau

Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

The Grange

Crushers GC

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome the captain of Crushers GC, Bryson DeChambeau. You shot a 4-under today. You are currently tied for fourth. Tell us a little bit about your round.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: It was a battle out there. This golf course had a lot of bite to it. I was 4-under through 9 and playing really good golf, and the 9th hole kind of stuck it to me, and I made a couple bad swings. It'll get you out there. Just a couple swings will get you. That's what makes this golf course so difficult right now.

But man, a lot of the players, they played incredible today. That many people under par is impressive out here on this track.

Q. You're a fan favorite out here; on the Watering Hole you had the whole place going crazy. Can you tell us about the LIV Golf Adelaide fans and your experience on the Watering Hole today.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: I love getting them riled up. It's fun. The Australians, they're a fun bunch. Anytime I can get them excited, it's a thrill. Just everywhere I looked, everybody was screaming at the top of their lungs, and it was fun to showcase a little emotion on the 12th hole because that's what that hole is meant to be. I'm just glad I hit it on the green and didn't get a boo.

Q. Are you heading out to the driving range to do shoeys after this?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Man, if I stay late enough, yeah. It's got to be like after 8:30.

Q. And maybe get a pair of socks.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: I need my socks this year.

Q. I wanted to ask you about your approach on the par-4s here. There's obviously a couple of them that are under 400 yards and I think five others are about 425 or less. I think you didn't use driver off 1. What's your strategy on these par-4s out here?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: It's really wind dependent. If I get a good wind and I can hit it up by the green and there's not much trouble up around the green, I'm going to go for it. 15 was one of those holes today I hit it right up next to the green. Unfortunately just in the rough right of the bunker pin high, pretty much had no shot besides hitting it at the slope and having it come back to 10 feet.

No. 8, I pulled it just a little bit, clipped a tree. If it didn't clip a tree, it would have gotten up there pretty close to the hole but I still made a great birdie. It's really being patient on these par-4s and deciding what is going to give me the best opportunity to make birdie on the hole. It's a risk-reward thing.

As I look at it, it's really wind dependent. It very much so is. You can't get too far ahead of yourself thinking, oh, can I drive it hole or lay it back or whatnot. It's so situational. Did I hit the drive well on the last hole? Am I comfortable with it? Am I feeling it?

That's a lot of what it was today for the first nine holes, and then I kind of stalled on the back nine but made some great putts, one of them over the 14th green. That was nice. Made birdie there.

Then on 16, I made a great birdie on that hole, so my putter was on fire today. It was doing really well. Just got to have some better ball-striking for tomorrow.

Q. Coming into this season -- obviously last year you had the U.S. Open but didn't win on LIV. How important is it to get a win out here individually this season and kind of get back to that form?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, every time I tee it up, I want to win. Last year everybody said, oh, you're just focused on the majors. Well, no, I was focused every time I went out and played a golf tournament. But what I'm really looking for is a golf swing that is just a little bit more consistent and repeatable. I'm getting close. I'm getting really, really close.

What I had at the U.S. Open was pretty darned good. It worked well. Obviously led to winning the U.S. Open, which was great. Want to get back to that form.

But I'm still searching for what I did so well at Greenbrier back in late '23 when I shot 58. That was the best I'd ever hit the golf ball.

I'm always striving to get back to that place and just trying to learn what was it that exactly clicked in that manner.

Q. Bryson, I believe your first trip to Australia was 2015 for the Aussie Masters and Open. You were the U.S. Amateur champion.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yes.

Q. Curious, 10 years later, what have you made of Australian golf, Australian golf tournaments, the way they've evolved and how much you've enjoyed playing down here?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, the Sand Belt has been great. Adelaide here, the Grange has been fantastic. Huntingdale was amazing. Peter Senior beat my butt, unfortunately. That old fart got me.

But what a legend here. He played some incredible golf. I finished second as an amateur. That was fun.

Australian Open, played pretty well. Played actually with Lee Westwood the third round. I don't think he liked me very much. Don't clickbait that, by the way, I'm just sayin'. I love Lee Westwood; we have a good relationship now. But it was funny that day; maybe he was just frustrated or something.

But going back to golf, I think this type of golf is much more of a links style type of golf but with an Australian flavor and flair, which I thoroughly like. Hard, firm and fast, you can do some fun stuff out here. You can hit some 430-yard drives if you get the right wind with the right bounce, for me at least, so it's fun doing that. Then it can be really brutal.

16 I hit driver, 9-iron. Albeit it was a half shot, but normally that's a driver, flip wedge or hybrid, flip wedge. So it was difficult, very difficult, and the type of style is -- how do I say it? It's fun. I just love and enjoy the test of golf over here, especially when the wind is down. I'm not the best wind player, but I like the bounciness of the golf course. I like firm greens, firm surroundings.

Q. If this is year three of this tournament, I was curious how big you think it can get five years from now, 10 years from now.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: I mean, I think only God knows that. I don't know exactly what it's going to be like. I know it's going to continue to be bigger and better each and every year. Certainly this is one of the best LIV events if not the best LIV event on our schedule, and it's a joy coming back here with the fans and the people and the atmosphere. This is what LIV Golf is about. This is what we all thought it was going to be every single week, and it's going to get there. We're going to work to continue to make that happen.

But this is what we want every single week. So it's a lot of fun. It's a lot of fun playing out here.
