Q. 5-under par round to start the championship. How are you feeling after that performance?

JACK BUCHANAN: Yeah, played well out there today, kept things going. Weather was very hot. Just tried to play my own game and stick to my own pace out there today and tried to keep as cool as I could.

Q. Good start with an eagle on the front nine and two birdies, as well. Talk us through those highlights.

JACK BUCHANAN: Yeah, eagled the second hole of the day. Hit a good, I think it was a 6-iron to about 20 foot, 25 foot and holed one, which was quite nice.

Then drove it just pin high right on 6, got up-and-down for birdie.

Then hit a good driver down 9, which set up a good 60-degree wedge and holed another 20-footer for birdie on 9.

Q. You covered on the 18th to make a birdie. Nice end to the round.

JACK BUCHANAN: Yeah, it was nice to birdie 18. I had a couple bogeys on the back nine. Tried to not let that get in the way of the good round I was having, so nice to birdie the hole. It's such a good hole.

Q. You mentioned the conditions. It's obviously really hot out there. How do you cope with that during a long day out on the golf course?

JACK BUCHANAN: Yeah, obviously very hot out here, so just got to try to drink as much water as you can, rehydrate, electrolytes, also just try and keep things to a consistent pace when you're walking on the golf course. It's hard walking different speeds; it throws you out of it. But just rehydrate, rehydrate, rehydrate.

Q. Obviously off to a good start. How much momentum does that give you looking to the rounds ahead?

JACK BUCHANAN: Yeah, it's only the first round of the championship, so very early days on, but you can lose the tournament on the first day, you can't win it. Nice to have a solid opening round and something nice to build off of.
