January 15, 2025
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Press Conference
N. BORGES/J. Thompson
6-3, 6-2, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Jordan, bad luck on the result today. What was it about Nuno's game that troubled you the most today?
JORDAN THOMPSON: I think first-serve percentage was really hard, but not only that, where he was putting the serve. You know, just found it really tough to make inroads on his serve today, and his serve plus one was high-level.
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. How's the leg?
JORDAN THOMPSON: Yeah, it was fine until probably 4-3, was getting outplayed, to be honest. Yeah, probably did something to the other side of my foot, so yeah, not good.
Q. It sort of goes without saying, you come this far and to have the body let you down in a moment like that, I mean, can you just talk through that feeling?
JORDAN THOMPSON: Yeah, that's the most disappointing part. I mean, if he'd have beaten me 2, 3, 3, I walk away with a healthy body, I'd be happier.
But yeah, I don't know if I was coming back, but I had a chance there, but yeah, hurt it again at 4-3 and had a couple of breakpoints, but I barely won a point after I hurt the foot. I was getting outplayed before that, anyway. Yeah, it's disappointing, because I did have a chance there but didn't let me finish properly.
Q. (Question about the injury.)
JORDAN THOMPSON: I never thought that once, no.
Q. Had it been bothering you before that 4-3? Because as you said, breakpoint chances, potentially looking to take that third set?
JORDAN THOMPSON: That was the best it felt, like, since I have been here. Yeah, and then I think it was the 15-30 point to bring up 15-40, two breakpoints, did something to the other side.
Honestly that was the best I felt, the best I moved. Yeah, that's why it was most disappointing, feeling all right.
Q. What's the plan now? Take some time off and try to get it fully healed, or...
JORDAN THOMPSON: I think so. Yeah, I don't want to play again, don't want to be on my feet until it's back to 100%.
Q. That's not the sort of situation where you can manage it with injections and stuff like that short-term?
JORDAN THOMPSON: I mean, that's what I have been doing, but yeah, it's probably not a good sign that I did something while on those injections, as well.
Yeah, probably just have to wait until it gets 100% again.
Q. A few Australians have struggled with health at this tournament. Is there something you personally want to be doing differently to look after your body and other players on the tour need to think about?
JORDAN THOMPSON: Honestly I have done everything I can. I take my recovery pretty seriously. Do an ice bath, doing rehab, doing strength work on everything in my body, and yeah, this is a tough one, an acute injury. Sometimes there's just nothing you can do about it.
