J. SINNER/M. Giron
6-3, 6-4, 6-2
THE MODERATOR: Jannik, how pleased are you with your form the first week of the AO?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, for sure the first goal is to go in the second week. I'm very happy to be here again. Felt like today was maybe the best match in the way of how I tried to play. I made some still more mistakes, but it's okay. I felt like I was hitting the ball a little bit better than in the previous rounds.
So yeah, I'm quite happy. Of course I want to raise my level in the next round match, but let's see.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. As a top athlete, you have to work a lot physically. You saw Gael made it to the last 16. What's his secret and what is your secret to remain physically that strong for a long career that can span 20 years? Do you think you'll be as fit as Gael is when you're 38?
JANNIK SINNER: This is a question I cannot answer. I don't know.
For sure you have to work a lot, especially when you're young, to reach longevity. You have to prevent things. You have to work also very smart.
I was someone who didn't use many weights when I was a junior player or younger than I am now. Trying to prevent those some injuries. You have to choose the right tournaments, when to play, when not to play. There are many things what come together.
We saw that also today with Gael, with Novak, many incredible players who are still so, so fit with their age. This gives us also a different point of view, no? Of course, it's important to win now, but it's also important to keep the career and the body in a good shape the more you go on.
Q. I wanted to ask you about Alex de Minaur. What are the main areas you need to focus on when you come across him in a tournament?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, I'm not playing against him yet, so... I'm not playing against him. If you want, I can still answer.
He's a great player obviously. Especially he loves to play here in Australia with the home crowd. It gives something extra to his game. He's very fast player, very solid player. He has improved a lot in the past years. Serve is getting much, much bigger. I practiced with him before the tournament.
Yeah, he's a great player who always improves.
Q. Speaking of your next opponent, who we don't know yet, but what the different challenges Kecmanovic and Holger pose when you face them?
JANNIK SINNER: Holger I know slightly better. We always had tough matches in the past. Let's see what's coming.
For sure he's someone who can raise the level very, very high. Knowing that, I also have to raise my level. If it's Miomir, I know him slightly worse in the way because I didn't play so many times against him.
Whoever is going to be there deserves to be there. It's going to be a tough match. We see how it goes.
Q. You were talking about how you thought you played well. Do you have a feeling like when you're on the court, is there something when you realize you're playing well, a certain shot that feels well?
JANNIK SINNER: Well, there are different feelings on the court, no? Sometimes you try to focus on things what really work well in certain moments. Then after sometimes you also want to try couple of things to see if they work or not.
I felt like today I was still missing some shots, but in a positive way. I went for shots. I tried to make some serve and volleys, some dropshots, trying to have a good feel with the court.
But, of course, when you play good, you realize that you're playing some good tennis, which gives you then also a very calm mindset, knowing that today it might be a good day.
Yeah, that's it.
