DP WORLD TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

November 14, 2024

Paul Waring

Dubai, UAE

Jumeirah Golf Estates, Earth Course

Quick Quotes

Q. Picked up where you left off last week with a lovely round of 68. What pleased you most about your play today?

PAUL WARING: Got off to a really good start. I think I was 4-under front nine. Obviously coming off of last week, being able to sort of come straight out of the blocks and get going again, I was really, I'm going to say impressed with myself.

First time dealing for me with a lot of media sort of Tuesday and Wednesday, something that I'm not used to and something that hopefully I'll have to get used to, which is nice.

But again, it takes time and energy and that sort of thing. It's my first time in a while dealing with so much that have stuff.

So to be able to separate that and get on the golf course Thursday afternoon and go again, I'm really happy I was able to reset and get back into that flow state.

Q. Having achieved so much last week, what was the mindset teeing off this week?

PAUL WARING: Let's go again. Loved it. Absolutely loved last week so much. Yeah, I want to play like this more often, obviously, and be involved in such big tournaments more often.

And it was great to play alongside someone like Tyrrell that I've known for many years. He's a quality, quality player. You know, just to see how he goes about his business in these situations, he just keeps going and grinding it out, and it was great to see that and inspired me to keep going.

Q. You moved to Dubai around a year ago. This is your home course, essentially. It's set up differently this week but is there still that comfort and familiarity?

PAUL WARING: Yeah, I didn't waste too much time in practise rounds, because I obviously know the place so well. So I was trying to conserve a bit of energy early in the week. A Pro-Am in buggies is always nice, save the legs, especially after last week, as well.

Surface is a bit different. Surface is a bit tighter. You'll see it's a bit compacted sand underneath so chipping is not the easiest at the moment, and greens are just a little bit quicker than what we tend to see sort of week-in and week-out.

I think the course has been presented really well with everything that went on sort of start of the year with the storms and everything. I think they have done really well in the last 14 hours to get it in the state they have. It's fantastic.
