Quick Quotes
Q. Here we are at the end of a European Tour season and just wonder how you reflect from 12 months ago to where you are now and how life has changed and your stature has just grown and grown and grown.
ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, it's been a great year. From this time last year, there's been some lows but probably some better lies than obviously lower lows. It's been a hell of a year. I probably couldn't have scripted what's happened to be honest, from obviously the Ryder Cup, and the Ryder Cup till now has been an absolute roller coaster.
I've dreamed of having a season like this but is the reality going to happen, you never really think it will happen. But it's been probably the fairy tale situations in pretty much a year. It's been a hell of a time.
Q. Do you ever sit back and just sort of reflect on that, when you consider winning in Canada with your dad, winning your home Open, being on a winning Ryder Cup, this is the period that we are talking about. Do you allow yourself to sit back and go, wow?
ROBERT MacINTYRE: To be honest, I haven't. I haven't had a full sitdown debrief with everyone within the team within the family. I have not done that yet. But when I do, even when I look at my phone, when I'm trying to take a photo on my own and I went through it, things pop up because I'm scrolling, and it's like, wow, that happened, wow, that happened, and wow, that happened. It is just incredible to think that I've achieved a lot of my dreams in one season, in one swoop, and it's been brilliant.
But there's still hopefully more to come.
Q. You can't rest on your laurels and I would imagine that success, it breeds the desire for more success if nothing else?
ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, it does, and it's trying to work out what to do to now get to that next page, and it's trying not to lose sight of what's got you here, and not changing, not being like a revolution of your whole game. It's just about, this has got you here. This can improve. Let's try and tweak it a little bit. Don't try and overwrite the whole thing. Stick to the basics and then just tweak little bits to get you to the next level to major championships.
Q. It's very difficult to quantify, I'm sure, but do you feel a much better golfer than you did months ago?
ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, most weeks when I come to a golf course I've been before, it's amazing how a year can make you feel. There's some holes on certain golf courses I pitch up and I go, how bad of a hole is this, and an hour ago, what was I worrying about there. Like that shouldn't be a worry. That just comes from experience and maturity and how you take the good with the bad and previous experiences. You just learn from that.
I think that's something I've done well over the last kind of year to year and a half is I always try and learn from the mistakes. If I'm uncomfortable, why was that. If the game wasn't good there, then why was it. Yeah, you'll still be uncomfortable over certain shots, certain holes, but overall, we're far better than we were last year.
Q. So in terms of this year, signing off on a high, I'm sure is right up there on your agenda for this week. What are your feelings going into this one?
ROBERT MacINTYRE: I feel great. Game is in good shape. A couple of tweaks here and there. Last week was obviously good. I was in a position, I felt, going into the weekend with a chance. Going into Sunday had somewhat of a chance. Obviously Paul had an unbelievable week and great Sunday finish. So it really took it out of any hands there but I pushed hard at the end and kind of accepted that it was good or bad. I would use other words, but it was going to end good or bad. If I pulled it off, I had a chance, and if it didn't come off, we were potentially making bogey if not double, and that's what happened on Sunday.
I'm happy with it. I took it on. It didn't work out, and go again this week. And if I have a chance come the 6th hole on Sunday, then we'll do the same thing. We'll either go for it or we don't.
Q. Just a final thought, for the guys who were in your position a year ago, vying for those PGA TOUR cards, how much of a potential life-changing week could it be for them? You're living proof of it, aren't you?
ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, I mean, I don't know if my life's changed. Obviously you make more money.
Q. Career changing.
ROBERT MacINTYRE: Career changing, a hundred percent. I'm in a position now that I can pick. I've now got to the top level of professional golf, the Top-25 percent of professional golfers. You can then pick your schedule and you're in all the major events and you're in all the top events you can play in and you can pick-and-choose, and that's where you want to be.
Last year I obviously played a lot and that's because you have to play the events you get in. I said it from when these cards came about, what an opportunity it is to get as high up the world of golf as you can. I think the majority of golfers out here have got that dream, as well. Luckily I got one of them cards, and then I've worked hard and I've got the breaks that I've got, and I've got to where I am now.
But I mean, there's plenty of guys that can get there, as well. Rasmus has had a hell of a year and I'm hoping Jordan Smith gets over the line. There's so many good guy, and not just good golfers, but they are good people.
