Quick Quotes
Q. Ryan, nice to get in the first round, 6-under 66, bogey-free. Talk about that round a little bit. I see you hit 17 of 18 greens.
RYAN MOORE: Yeah, I mean, obviously a golf course I'm comfortable, familiar with. We had, I mean, amazing weather this morning for what's coming potentially this afternoon and on to tomorrow.
Fortunate to get to play in some pretty mild conditions. You know, I liked really almost every aspect of the game. Just kind of one of those solid days. Put it in the right places and gave myself some opportunities. You know, capitalized on a few of them. Had a few putts that didn't quite go in, but hit a lot of good putts today.
So that was probably what encouraged me the most throughout the round. It's one thing I've been a little up and down on lately, and felt really solid out there today.
Q. Did you get frustrated early starting with eight pars and then you just lit it up, six in the next eight.
RYAN MOORE: Again, I've played this golf course enough that I'm comfortable with it. It's one of those courses, it can happen. That front nine is definitely a little bit tougher and not maybe as scorable as the back nine, especially starting back there early in the morning like that.
Just took a minute. I gave myself plenty of chances and didn't quite capitalize, and finally got one there on 9, missed a close one on 10, and I think I made three in a row after that which was nice and got me going.
Q. Your position coming into the fall was probably not as good as you wanted it to be. How do you approach the FedEx fall in that position? What's the mindset you take into the fall?
RYAN MOORE: I mean, I've been in the same position two years in a row and somehow I was able to sneak it out last year. I don't know. I can't say I'm trying to think any differently about it. They're golf tournaments. I'm just trying play as good as I can. Good golf kind of takes care of everything.
So far this fall I haven't played a lot of great golf. Today was a good step in the right direction, a solid round of golf. Obviously we got a few more days to go and some very questionable weather, so a lot of things can happen.
It was nice to get off to a good start today in a place that I love and enjoy and very comfortable.
Q. Ryan, you're obviously a veteran pro. The FedEx fall is new these last two season. What has that adjustment been like for you at this stage of your career that things have really been shaken up at the end of the season?
RYAN MOORE: Schedule-wise it's not that different. We're just playing these at the end instead of the beginning, so there is a little different mindset there.
No, still the same events, same areas. I haven't noticed a huge difference personally of how I'm approaching it. Maybe you know where you stand at this point and what you need to do, where before it was the start of the season and you were just getting going and trying to rack up some points early.
You know, can be a difference in mindset there, but for me personally I don't really approach it any different.
Q. Did you feel as though there has been a bit of a vibe shift amongst the players with this kind of new tone to the fall where you really use this fall to set yourself up for designated events?
RYAN MOORE: I mean, it can, certainly. I would say a lot of us are in this position where you're juts trying to work your way back into the top 125 or trying to hang on or just improve your position.
The better and higher you finish the better your status is next year. Everybody at this point, we are just trying to play as good as we can and get the best position possible going into next season.
