BLACK DESERT CHAMPIONSHIP

October 11, 2024

Zac Blair

Ivins, Utah, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Zac, I know you want to do a lot more than make cuts, but sometimes fighting to make the cut is part of the job, right?

ZAC BLAIR: Yeah.

Q. Was what your mindset today?

ZAC BLAIR: You know, the scores were good yesterday so knew I had to go out and put another 2- or 3-under up at least to hopefully play the next couple days.

So it's always nice making cuts. That's the only way you get the chance to kind of get into contention later in the week.

So just need to maybe clean it up a little bit but played solid.

Q. You talk about cleaning it up. Again today you had a lot of shape on your scorecard. Is there a characteristic to this course that is making you take risks you wouldn't normally take and then finding places where it works?

ZAC BLAIR: Yeah, not really. Been hard to get kind of numbers of how far it's playing. It's kind of a little colder in the morning then as it warms up it's kind of changing all over the place based on kind of like the sea level adjustment, how much you're taking off.

So that's been a little challenging, even for me kind of being from here. It's always kind of part of the game when you come to Utah.

But not really. There is a lot of birdie opportunities if you keep it in the fairway. For me, there is a few holes where I can't really like -- like 9 for example, I can't cover the trouble.

Q. You're playing three shots.

ZAC BLAIR: Yeah, I got to -- and 18 I have to hit a really good one out the right and I can still get home, but some of those holes are a little harder when you can't just blast it over the trouble.

Q. You said yesterday the course was playing a little soft. Is it firming up? Scores across the board are a little higher so far.

ZAC BLAIR: Not really. It was pretty soft out there again today, you know, nice and green. I'm sure that's how they want it.

Hopefully the wind blows and it gets a little firmer the next couple days.

Q. Any change of strategy or approach for the weekend?

ZAC BLAIR: No. Just like I said, hopefully can have a couple days with no bogeys and a lot of birdie opportunities.

Q. Talk about the experience of playing here in Utah, playing with Fish.

ZAC BLAIR: Yeah, always fun playing with Fish. You know, I think he could have played better. Kind of had a tough time kind in the middle of the round; lost a ball on 2. He's the best. He's always a fun person to play with.

So was Hubbard. Two of my favorite guys to play with.

Q. Is there a comfortability when you're playing with friends in your home state?

ZAC BLAIR: A lot of friendly faces out there. A lot of people kind of cheering you on, which is always nice. You don't always get that. Seems like all the cheers were a little louder for me and Fish when you hit a decent shot, which was fun.

Yeah, any time you're playing with friends, if it's going good, you know, you kind of got the mo going with the group. We didn't really have that unfortunately the first two days.
