Lucy Li

Shanghai, China

Qizhong Garden Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. (Regarding play today.)

LUCY LI: Yeah, I got off to a little bit of a slow start on the front nine. I was hitting it good but the putts just weren't going in. So it was nice to get a putt to fall on 10. That was a pretty tough putt. Then hitting some good shots and putts coming in.

A little tough putt there on 18 but otherwise I feel pretty good with how I played today.

Yeah, so I wasn't hitting my driver that well today. Kind of got it under control a little bit and hit the fairway I needed to hit.

But I hit it good out of the rough. Just my irons were good, wedges were good and that really saved me.

Q. I have a question for you. What's your mindset going into tomorrow's round? Are there specific areas you're focus to go improve on?

LUCY LI: Yeah, my mindset going into tomorrow is the same as it is always. One shot at a time. Going to go to the range and see if I can figure out my driver.

Hopefully hit that a little bit better. Everything else is pretty good.

Q. What do you think about your grouping today?

LUCY LI: Yeah, I mean, it was nice to play with Celine and Sei Young. They're both really good players. Just excited to be in a final grouping and be in contention is always fun, getting to learn from a couple good players, yeah.

Q. Would you please walk us through 14. You hit the shot close to the pin. Would you please talk about it?

LUCY LI: Yeah, I had a perfect number for my sand wedge. It was like 95 yards so perfect full shot. I just hit it good. I don't know.

Q. Which club did you use?

LUCY LI: Sand wedge.

Q. Shame on 18. What was going on there at 18?

LUCY LI: Just a really long putt. It was almost 60 feet and I hit a great putt and I made a lot of good putts today, so no real point the dwelling on it too much.

Q. (Question not translated.)

LUCY LI: I can understand. It was obviously really nice to shoot 60 and be in contention there for my first -- being in contention to win last week. So really just gave my confidence. My game has been trending in the right direction for a while now.

So just having that result be there I think just gave me some more belief in myself that I could do well. And also just having less pressure for the season, not having to worry about CME or next year I think has given me a lot more freedom.

Q. (Question not translated.)

LUCY LI: Yeah, definitely something I struggled with is putting too much pressure on myself. That's something I've dealt with the last few years being a professional and even an amateur.

I never really felt it from outside sources. More internal. My family is very supportive. They never give me any pressure.

So just learning to realize that everyone has their own path and that it's okay to struggle sometimes. Just learning that lesson is really important for me as a professional, and I think this year -- last year was all my struggles; this year starting out really well and then really struggling in the middle of the season, having that experience really -- I didn't feel -- I felt at peace this year just knowing like what I was working on and that if I kept doing it I would get my game back on track.

And so I'm really proud of myself and how I've handled the ups and downs of my career and this year.

Q. (Question not translated.)

LUCY LI: Yeah, obviously I would love to win here. It's really important not to get ahead of myself. It has to be every shot at a time. I think I did a really good job of that today, getting off to that really slow start and not thinking about that too much.

Just giving my best every shot and that's really all you can do.
