AL DIVISION SERIES: ROYALS VS YANKEES

October 5, 2024

Gleyber Torres

New York, New York, USA

Yankee Stadium

New York Yankees

Postgame 1 Press Conference

Yankees 6, Royals 5

Q. In five plate appearances tonight, you saw almost 30 pitches in total. Can you tell us a little bit about what your mindset is at the plate?

GLEYBER TORRES: No, I feel like mindset is just the same as the regular season. I know how it's important, especially in postseason, one walk. I just try to be more consistent on the plate, try to see a lot of pitches, and just be ready for the pitch that can do damage.

It's really not easy, but I feel comfortable. I know I've got amazing guys behind me so I don't have to do too much right now and just go to home plate, follow my plan. If I don't have anything to hit or something, I can get a walk and pass the baton for Soto and Judge and all those guys.

Q. Can you take us through the home run there in the third inning, your second plate appearance?

GLEYBER TORRES: Yeah, in the first inning I saw a lot of really good pitches from Wacha. I just tried to pick one pitch I can do damage. In that at-bat, I know that Dugey was on first base. I feel like with the sinker ball, he tried to pull me to hit a double play and just waiting for the pitch I can at least hit a fly ball. He throw me the right pitch and I felt like I do swing to do something for them.

Q. After the team missing out on the playoffs last year, just being back here in the postseason at Yankee Stadium, what was it like to play in this atmosphere here tonight?

GLEYBER TORRES: Amazing. I mean, everybody knows how it feels to play in New York, especially in the postseason. Tonight it's really loud. I know all the fan support of the team, and that's a special position.

Last year was a tough year for us. It's not that easy, but we learned from last year. This year we do a lot of really good things during the season. We got struggle moments, but I feel like those moments help us to get together and have more consistency in every game.

We worked to be here, so we enjoy really well tonight. We've got another game in a few days, Monday, and just be ready for Monday. I know all the fans are going to support us. We try to do the best here.
