ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 5, 2024

Nicolas Colsaerts

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Quick Quotes

Q. What a day, you gave us one of the big moments of the day, the albatross on 16. Talk us through that?

NICOLAS COLSAERTS: Well, obviously super special. I think that when you play Kingsbarns and you play 16 and you see that ball down the left, that's obviously where you would like to see the flag, which is not the usual spot actually.

We've had it before but yeah, that 6-iron just came out perfectly. I was like, I'm going to take a chance and try to fly it in there, and I saw the ball coming back down the backstop, I was like, okay, and I put the two hands in the air. Super special. An albatross is pretty rare. Really chuffed, yeah.

Q. Took a moment for it to sink in, didn't it?

NICOLAS COLSAERTS: Yeah, I saw one of you guys with a camera at the back that told me it was in. Listen, I would have been quite happy with a tap-in three but of course a cherry on the cake holing a 6-iron for an albatross 2 on a par 5 is pretty cool.

Q. Perfect day to play Kingsbarns, it was just there for the taking, this course, today, wasn't it?

NICOLAS COLSAERTS: Yeah, but it was a bit longer today. At the end, I felt like it's been a pretty long day. Got a little bit sloppy at the end. Felt like I could have squeezed probably two more but I squeezed a lot on my front nine on the back nine.

So in and out, if you told me this morning, I was going to shoot 7-under, I would have taken it.

Q. And tomorrow back to St Andrews, a course that you said you enjoy plotting your way around there?

NICOLAS COLSAERTS: Yeah, over the years, you tend to know what works in what wind and what shots to play off the tee.

But yeah, listen, I'm so happy to be here. I want to thank Johann Rupert for giving me an invite six days ago to play in this. I mean, having no category and getting to play these events and play so well in them is satisfying, and I'm really happy to get a shot at it tomorrow.

Q. What would it mean, first win on the DP World Tour in five years?

NICOLAS COLSAERTS: It would be amazing, being at St Andrews and being at an event that atmosphere always liked to play in that we always get looked after incredibly well, and for how long it's been on the calendar, yeah, it would mean a lot.
