ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 5, 2024

Tommy Fleetwood

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Quick Quotes

Q. Your second bogey-free round in a row, yesterday 65, today 67. How do you reflect on your day?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yeah, it was a chance for a good score. Yeah, you know, when the Old Course is like this, if you hit it half-decent off the tee, you can give yourself a lot of chances.

5-under, bogey-free, it sounds good, but it was a bit of a frustrating one. I just didn't put like I did on the first two days really. A bit frustrating. But fair play to the guys who shot amazing scores.

Q. A second at the Olympics and third last week in Spain, is your long game as good as it's ever been?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: No, not at all. Doesn't feel that great to be honest. But I keep hitting it where I can hit it. I keep hitting it in play. It's a strange game, really. I think you look at the middle part of the year, I felt like I was playing as good as I've played for a long time and I was consistent without getting any results.

I'm playing well. I'm doing a lot of the right things. I think scoring is something that's a bit frustrating but at the same time, it's like there's so many good things going on. Obviously very consistent. Yeah, I can't be negative about it. Just have to look at things that I can improve on to obviously reach that next level. Because the consistency is there and I'm doing really well but I just feel like I could be doing that bit better.

Q. Six shots behind going into the final round; it's been done before and it can be done again. Tomorrow they are forecasting 15-mile-an-hour winds, maybe 25-mile-an-hour gusts. Does that help the chasing pack?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I think it will be very, very difficult on a flat calm day, probably to chase, because I feel like the guys go out and shoot a good score, it's very hard for you then unless you do something special like course record.

Anything's possible. Not out of the realm of possibility being six shots behind. I still have to score better than I did today. Wherever I'm sitting, just continue to focus on my game and try and have a great day tomorrow and just see where that puts us.
