SANDERSON FARMS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 4, 2024

Gary Woodland

Jackson, Mississippi, USA

Country Club of Jackson

Quick Quotes

Q. Gary another solid round. How would you assess the first two rounds and where you're game is at going into tomorrow?

GARY WOODLAND: Yeah, actually probably a little happier about today than I was yesterday. Yesterday I played really well. All three level, driving, short game, ball striking was all really nice. Today was not as good and I hung in there. I grinded it out. Made some pars, a bunch of pars I guess and a couple birdies.

Very proud of not having it today and grinding it out and shooting 4-under. Game is in a good spot. Obviously nice to come out and play 36, didn't make a bogey. Just shows I'm doing a lot of things right, and looking forward to a big weekend.

Q. What's been going on off the golf course? What have you been doing to see more results on the course?

GARY WOODLAND: Yeah, a lot. I've been working hard with Randy Smith in Dallas and at home. It's just all coming together. I've been over a year now from surgery. Starting to feel a lot better, which helps. That helps everything. Helps practice, help you live life better.

And I'm starting to see the results up that's the big deal. Probably pushed it -- came out a little too early this year. It is what it is, right? I learned a lot about myself and I'm very happy and thankful to be here.

Q. Was there a point where you noticed you were starting to feel stronger, a lot better?

GARY WOODLAND: Yeah, been the last couple -- it's been recent. Just been a change in the last couple weeks, starting to feel more like myself again.

I see it. I'm happier. I feel better. I've been able to be less stimulation. I can be around my kids when they're going nuts now. Like everything is just starting to get back, which is beautiful.

Q. Obviously a great start through 36 holes, no bogeys. Going into the weekend you'll have a shot. How do you stop yourself from kind of getting ahead of yourself where you're really seeing some good form for the first time in a while?

GARY WOODLAND: Yeah, like I said I've been out here for a long time. I've looked ahead before and didn't work very well for me. I know the drill. I know to stay within myself.

Right now I'm enjoying it. I'm coming back from a low place obviously, so it's nice to play well, nice to see results.

But I have a long way to go, but headed in the right direction.
