ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 4, 2024

David Law

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Quick Quotes

Q. 10th is a 4, the 11th is a 3, and the 12th is a 4, and you go 3-2-3. That's a great start, isn't it?

DAVID LAW: Yeah, it's a nice way to start. Nice way to start.

Q. Tell us about it. Tell us about the start.

DAVID LAW: Yeah, 10 was like downwind off the tee. So I hit driver and got on the front of the green. 2-putt for birdie there which was great. Nice way to start.

Holed from about 20 feet on 11 and about the same on 12. Obviously you want to go out there and start as best as you can, especially when you know the back nine on the Old Course is going into the wind. It gives you a bit of a buffer for the next sort of six holes you play into the wind. Unfortunately I couldn't really capitalise too much on the front nine that was downwind. But yeah, it was a good score.

Q. 18 was special, though, wasn't it? Birdieing 18 is always special, surely.

DAVID LAW: Absolutely. My partner, Dan Martin, he birdied it as well. I drove up in the valley and 2-putted from there.

Q. One birdie in 36 holes; is that correct?

DAVID LAW: Yeah.

Q. Is that must be pretty pleasing around two great golf courses like this.

DAVID LAW: It is, yeah. I think it probably shows that I'm putting pretty well and my irons have been good. The conditions have been pretty favourable compared to recent years we've played in. Yeah very happy with that.

Q. Friday evening, one back going into Carnoustie, what's your thoughts about tomorrow?

DAVID LAW: Probably the same. Carnoustie is a little more strategic the way that you need to play. I feel like I know the course well. We've got a good game plan. My caddie and I have spoke about it already. Yeah, you need to be a little more strategic and probably drive it a bit better than the other two courses.

But saying that, there's still a score out there. So I'll be looking for more of the same. I'll be out trying to make birdies as much as possible and take advantage of the chances that are out there.

Q. Someone you probably know, Paul Lawrie, won over there, didn't he, on that green, a few years ago. Thoughts?

DAVID LAW: Yeah, obviously that would be fantastic. Yeah, I believe I can do it. We've got two rounds still to go but yeah, I'm in a great place heading into the weekend.
