Q. 3-under, how would you assess your day overall?

JAMES ASHFIELD: 3-under around Carnoustie is good any time, no matter the weather. We had a pretty good day to be fair. There wasn't much wind. I felt like I hit it pretty good tee-to-green. I didn't hole as much as yesterday but it was hard to live up to that because I holed the world yesterday to be honest with you. Everything was just pretty tidy.

Q. How much of a tough challenge is it out there when the wind is blowing?

JAMES ASHFIELD: Definitely Carnoustie is known for being as tough as it can be, really. I know even it was probably blowing 10 to 20 out there today. Wasn't really affecting the ball on the greens but it's just such a tough test tee-to-green, really.

Q. And you recently turned pro. What was the reasoning behind that and what's your plans now?

JAMES ASHFIELD: I didn't really see a point staying as amateur anymore. Like I felt like I kind of did everything I could in the amateur game.

So I was like, I'm not going to wait around and wait till whenever it was, February, March, for the next event.

So I was like, oh, rather get my feet stuck in there and be against the best in the world and see where I am, really.

Q. You mentioned the best in the world there. You're obviously right at the top of that leaderboard at the moment. Have you surprised yourself, seeing your name so high?

JAMES ASHFIELD: Well, obviously, as a player, I think every player will agree, like you think a lot of yourself, and you've got to believe in yourself.

So for me, I'm just going out there playing golf and just trying to make as many birdies as I can.

So that's what the plan is for the next few days.

Q. You're up there with Jamie, how has that appearances been?

JAMES ASHFIELD: He's a different class. He's honestly one of the nicest guys I've ever met. We're having an absolute laugh out there and with the playing partners I'm playing with, it doesn't even feel an event which helps a lot. Feels like I'm out there playing with my mates. Can't plain at all.
