Quick Quotes
Q. Reed, what was it like to be playing out here today, and who did you have out here supporting you?
REED HUGHES: Well, I had a little girl, Jim Gallagher's wife, I told her when she was like 13 and she was out there pulling me on, we ate lunch together and that was pretty neat, and then a bunch of PGA pros. It was pretty special. I haven't even going through my Facebook posts and all that stuff. Yeah, it was pretty good. It was fun. I just had two bad holes.
Q. How special is it to come out here in Mississippi and make a start in your state's home PGA TOUR event?
REED HUGHES: Yep, and the last one. I hope it's not the last one. But pretty special, especially at my age. I've had a lot of fun, and hopefully I can shoot a little better tomorrow. I don't think I'm going to be able to get down there low enough, but I'm going to try.
But yeah, special just being out here inside the ropes. It's nerve-racking for sure, but it -- I don't know.
Q. What was the most enjoyable part about your day out there today?
REED HUGHES: Well, I hit it in the left rough on 1, and I think -- it was sitting down, and I couldn't even see the ball. I had to go under a tree, and I kept it under. I topped it about 20 yards. Then I hit it up on the green and made the 30-footer for par, and that was special. Then I had a gimme on the second hole. I had like about two inches on the second hole, and that calmed me down a little bit.
Q. On hole 8 you made a fantastic putt off the green and you kind of celebrated with some of your friends there. Talk us through that moment and how surreal it is to play out here.
REED HUGHES: Like I said, it's just unbelievable. I can't believe I'm doing it. It's hard for me because I'm used to riding in a cart and playing in about three hours. My round would have ended at home about No. 9, so that would have been a good day.
Q. Tomorrow I hear there's quite a few people coming out to watch. Is there anyone in particular you're excited to see?
REED HUGHES: All the guys from Grenada are supposed to be here, so that'll be fun. I work at Grenada Golf and Racquet Club, and my owner, he's here with his wife and then a bunch of guys are coming tomorrow, and it's going to be a blast.
I just hate that the guy with us hurt his hand and couldn't finish. That kind of bummed us out a little bit. Coody was a pretty good player. He was 2-under and had to quit.
