Q. An eight-deep 64 in your first pro start on the DP World Tour, doesn't get much better than that, does it, on the Old Course?

JAMES ASHFIELD: Yeah, I have a lot of good memories on the old scores. Played a lot of St Andrews Links and obviously Walker Cup. I never really got it going around there, and today, just everything seemed to click for me. It was really good. I was committed to every shot out there. I'm very confident. Settled in nice quite nicely. Holing some putts early on. Yeah, I was happy the way I played for sure.

Q. When you do get it rolling well does it help to get the birdies going?

JAMES ASHFIELD: A hundred percent. I feel like putting is probably not the strongest point in my game and something I'm trying to work on. When I putt good, I produce them scores. It's good. SO I'm enjoying it out there.

Q. You had a pretty good group with James Redknapp and Ruud Gullit?

JAMES ASHFIELD: I'm a big football an, a Man-United fan. It's grade to play with such legends, I had an absolute blast, and both of them are great sports.

Q. Different sports, but how much do you learn from playing with top-level sportsmen?

JAMES ASHFIELD: A lot because they have kind of been and done what I'm trying to go through but in a different sport. It's good to try to get in the mind a little bit and see what it was like for them and how professional they are when they were growing up and everything. It's good being surrounded by people at the top of their sport, really.
