Q. 9-under. How would you assess that?

DANIEL HILLIER: Yeah, I mean, doesn't get much better than playing the Old Course in conditions like this. Yeah, absolutely perfect today. Yeah, thankful fly made the most of it. Took me a few holes to get going but once I saw a few putts drop, I was away.

Q. You seemed to go on a couple of runs. Was it a case of getting momentum and trying to run with it?

DANIEL HILLIER: Absolutely. It took me awhile to warm up, as I said. Once you get into a bit of a groove, I had a nice approach shot into 4 and then yeah just got the feels from that and kept it going. But yeah, obviously it's not playing too difficult out there, so you definitely need to make some birdies, and I did.

Q. As you alluded to, the weather is perfect today, and this course is the most scorable of the three. How much importance do you put on posting a score to kick off?

DANIEL HILLIER: Absolutely. It's pretty important. You come out here, and yeah, you need to make sure that you put a good score on the board. Obviously there's a lot of golf to play and Carnoustie, if I get a bit of wind there, that will prove pretty tricky. So it's nice to have a little bit of a buffer. But.

Yeah, I've got to keep playing smart golf and hopefully make a few putts and a few birdies.

Q. You also played with a sporting legend out there, Steve Redgrave, as well. How was that?

DANIEL HILLIER: Yeah, he's such a nice guy, as well, which makes it even better. Really, really enjoyable day by everyone and another one tomorrow hopefully.
