Quick Quotes
Q. Xander and Tony, your second point earned this week. How much of a battle was it today?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it's our whole team. You've heard me before at individual events talking about you've got to have some dog in you. When I look around my team room, I see a lot of dogs. We've proved that so far.
Q. Tony, you've been touted as someone who can partner with anybody on your team, but why has this duo specifically been so strong?
TONY FINAU: Yeah, I think just like what he said. We're both resilient. We're both hopeful in any circumstance, and we're both dogs. Playing along with this guy, having this guy in your back pocket and I think vice versa is a pretty solid duo.
We've proved to be strong this week, and proud of this guy. He hit two huge putts on the last two holes, and that's what he does. Again, to have him as a partner is a dream partner for me, and I rolled this guy in the last couple holes and he got the job done.
Q. Also to be strong mentally, how much of a fitful night of sleep was it considering what happened on Friday?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it was a short night of sleep. I think everyone had a short night, literally everyone on property. Sometimes it's nice to get back out and champ at the bit.
Q. Big point. I thought a real turning point was the 9th hole. Did you feel a change in momentum heading to the back nine?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, we had a game plan, and I felt like we executed it pretty well. We had a lot of looks. We put some pressure on them.
The wind was down early with that fog and then once the sun came out the wind picked up, so we knew a lot of pars were going to be made, and you had to sort of gut out some gritty birdies, and that's what we did.
Q. Tony is it tough playing against the two Canadians?
TONY FINAU: Yeah, I was happy to get another shot at them. They played incredible yesterday, and they deserved to win in their match yesterday, so I was happy to get back out, have a chance with X as my partner, and we were able to handle business today. The crowd definitely brought it, but the way we played, we kept them at bay, and then Xander did his thing the last couple holes to hole putts and win the match.
Q. Last night there was obviously a clear switch in momentum. What was the chatter amongst the team? What did you guys say to each other and how did you stay focused because you obviously came out really focused today?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, we pick each other up. We play an individual sport, but a lot of the guys on our team have been on teams, and we have a great leader, and all the boys know what we need to do to get the task done, and we just picked each other up.
TONY FINAU: We knew there was three more sessions to go. There was only two sessions down, 10 points up for grabs the first two days and now there's 20. We knew there was still a lot of golf to be played. Although they played great, we like our chances with three sessions, and now after this win, with two more sessions to go.
