THE PRESIDENTS CUP

September 26, 2024

Jason Day

Byeong Hun An

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Royal Montreal Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. With Jason Day and Ben An. Guys, a very nice battle to start this Presidents Cup. Probably tough at the end, but how would you describe this round of golf?

BYEONG HUN AN: It was fun. It was tough. I knew it wasn't going to be easy, I'm sure, against Xander and Tony. They're great players.

We fought hard. There were some great birdies in the finish. Some wonky ones too on 17. I thought maybe I had it. Jason had a great read.

Overall, that's what it's all about. This grind, this battle. Yeah, I'm really proud of us. We hung in there and just couldn't pull it off.

Q. You guys came close, Jason.

JASON DAY: Yeah, it was close. Obviously we got lucky with 16, both of those guys three-putting there. Then Benny, the putt just needed to stay a little bit higher, and he would have holed it on 17 for birdie.

That would have potentially flipped because obviously coming off the back end of a win on 16 and you're looking for that momentum going into 18. Unfortunately, we just didn't quite get it.

The best players in the world had to birdie the last hole to beat us. That's why grinding it out is important. We've just got to kind of regroup and think about tomorrow.

Q. One quick word about the conditions maybe.

JASON DAY: Conditions are a little bit soft obviously as the rains come through. The next three days, they should start to get a little bit firmer, a little bit faster.

And I feel like our team has a really solid game from tee-to-green, and our short game putting is really solid too. Looking forward to tomorrow.
