Quick Quotes
Q. You're enormously popular but on home soil, happy memories?
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yeah, it's an amazing event this one. I think it's always nice coming back to the UK. It's always nice like the back end of English summer as well. I feel like we get lucky with the weather, and the home crowds, it's always so good to play here. This event in particular, so much history, Flagship Event, play the same golf course every year. There's a lot to love about it and I think all of us love coming back.
Q. You're in the top tier of superstar, playing against the best fields all the time and we know how tough winning is. Would you rather be winning more? Would you trade your incredible consistency?
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Probably, but I don't have a choice. I'll deal with what I've got and not worry about it too much. Of course you would want to win more. But at the same time, I think I can always focus on what you don't have but I think there's a lot of positives to how my game has been.
I haven't sort of been in contention as much as I'd like this year, but I've had a lot of consistency. It's important to look at the positives while trying to add to what you can do.
Been very happy with my consistency, and hopefully -- the game ebbs and flows, like all the time, and who knows what's around the corner. I could win two or three. Might not. Might not play very well. You just have to keep working and try and stay as level-headed as possible and just take the game as it comes while working hard.
Q. It's inevitable when we're at this venue, we start talking about the Ryder Cup. At what point does it enter the back of your head, or is it always there?
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yeah, I think definitely when the qualification starts, you know it's there. You would love to get a hot start through this process now.
But I think for the next year, I think it's in the back of everyone's mind, and I think whenever you have a good result or whatever your performances will be, you don't think about it straightaway. But deep down, there's always something to play for in the game. It's just Ryder Cup is very special, and once you've been part of one you never want to miss one. Ultimately, you know, you happen to play well, that's the most important thing and see where that sits you come September.
Q. Would you agree it's in everyone's best interests that the likes of Tyrrell and Jon are involved next year?
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: You obviously want the best players that you can assemble on the team, and of course, we all want that in terms of being able to put the best competition we can out there.
Q. The fact that a year ago in Rome, there was a bit of presence missing in the team room, do you think there's too much water under the bridge with the likes of Poults, Westwood, Henrik?
TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I think that's a difficult question. I think there's a bunch of us that obviously played in teams with them and they are a huge presence, and nobody can take away what they have meant to Team Europe over the last however many years and what a huge role they play in the success of Team Europe and you can never take that away from them.
I do believe that they are an unbelievably strong presence in the team room, as well as amazing players. You know, who knows how the flow of things work now in terms of having not been around as much for the last couple years. Who knows? It's easy to sort of look hypothetically at how that would work and everything, but unless, like, it actually happens and they are around, you don't actually know.
We'll see. There's so much up in the air still in the game. But you know, we did great in the last Ryder Cup and I think we are all very proud of what happened while Team Europe kind of transitioned.
