September 1, 2024

Justin Thomas

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

East Lake Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Sum up your week.

JUSTIN THOMAS: I mean, it was a good week. Yeah, it was a tough -- obviously a tough place to be in to start the week being that far back. But I'm proud of myself; felt like I played really well.

It's a bummer, it always seems like you start playing your best golf as the year is done. Really hope I get a chance at Presidents Cup because I feel like -- it was fun. These last couple days and this week I played really, really well. It was nice to have a good round to finish off the season today.

Q. How much were you thinking about it out there, if at all? Back of your mind, back-back?

JUSTIN THOMAS: I wouldn't say it was back-back. I definitely was thinking about it some. I thought about it a couple times today even. It was more I just wanted to shoot as low as I could to show to try to prove that I deserve and I feel like I want to be on the team.

I would hope that Jim knows I don't need to explain how much I want to be on that team and how much I would love to, but it's the same as last year; if the captains and the players on the team want me on the team, then I'm happy to be there, and whatever they need to do to assemble the best team possible, whether I'm on it or not, then that's what it is.

Q. From your perspective what has Scottie Scheffler elevated about his game this year?

JUSTIN THOMAS: I don't even know where to start. Obviously his putting has been so impressive in terms of literal what part of his game. But I just think how well he plays when he's the guy to beat every single week. I don't think people understand how hard that is to do, when you're expected to win, when you're the favorite to win, when every single thing you're doing is being looked at, good and bad, on the golf course, and how hard it is to get in your own little zone and own little world and truly just quiet the noise. It's something that is just as much of a skill as being able to hit a driver in the fairway or an iron on line. He's clearly figured that out very well.

Q. Why is that so hard to do?

JUSTIN THOMAS: I don't know, I just think it's the day and age we're in. You constantly have reminders, whether it's from people, social media -- he's not on social media, so that definitely helps. You're not constantly reading stuff about yourself and what people are saying about you. All Scottie wants to do is just play the best he can and win as many tournaments as possible, and he's doing a pretty good job of that.
