Quick Quotes
Q. 64, second round, nine incredible birdies. Some doing around that course?
BRANDON STONE: Yeah, like I said to you guys off camera, I didn't get off to the best start. I had a nice birdie putt on 10 and missed. Terrible tee shot on 1 and made bogey. But I really put a good swing on the 12th tee shot there. Hit to a good, six eight feet and rolled it in, kind of settled in there, and then the rest is a complete blur.
Q. What's been your secret? Nikolas Norgaaard, a notoriously long hitter, and a lot of guys have been tentative off the tees, given how the fairways are cut. Seems like being aggressive is rewarding a lot of people out there.
BRANDON STONE: Yeah, yes and no. I think listen the course is there to be kind of taken advantage of at times. But there's some good golf holes out there. 6 and 8 are just so daunting off the tee. You just wish you could throw your ball down the fairway rather than having to hit it. Listen, today we were very blessed that it wasn't much breeze out there.
Yesterday was quite tricky, and the wind was swirling around. Everything just came together nicely today and just rolled some beautiful putts in during the course of the round.
Q. Do you feel like you come into this week with some confidence having some good results on the Sunshine Tour recently?
BRANDON STONE: Yeah, that was actually good fun. Funnily enough, I was in 50 to 60 kilometre-an-hour winds, and got to here and it was beautiful.
Denmark made me take a little step back. Knew I wasn't playing great in the wind, funnily enough and did a little bit of work on the weekend, not much, but felt comfortable on my game. My coach, Dougie, came up this week and we spent a few days, Monday through Wednesday, working on the game and found something that felt really comfortable within the swing.
But overall I feel like I've been putting a lot better. The putter seemed to let me down a little over my career, if you want to call it that, and the last three, four months, it's really come together nice. I feel like I'm rolling the ball so much better than I ever really have, and it translates into good scores when it goes in.
Q. You got yourself a very late tee time tomorrow on the DP World Tour in front of big crowds. Must be nice to know that you'll have a lot of fun tomorrow?
BRANDON STONE: I'm hoping it's not too late because the Springboks are playing at 4.00. So I do hope it's something around 11.00 so I might be able to catch the game.
But in saying that, listen, the British fans are spectacular. Today walking off the golf course, just before 7.00, and I still had a good contingent of people walking with me and supporting me. It really was fascinating and really was fun to be a part of and experience.
I know tomorrow is going to be fantastic. They are going to come out in the thousands like they always do to support the local boys on the local tour, and I think it's just a real testament to what this event is. Sir Nick Faldo hosting here the Belfry British Masters; it doesn't really get much better.
