U.S. SENIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

August 28, 2024

Louis Brown

Ooltewah, Tennessee, USA

The Honors Course

Quick Quotes

Q. Finals of the U.S. Senior Amateur. Put that into words.

LOUIS BROWN: Well, that's what we're all here for. I've just been trying to focus on playing my game. I've done that pretty well. That's gotten me to this point.

I'm thrilled for the opportunity, but got more work to do, got more golf to play.

Q. You don't play this much golf, obviously; this is a lot of golf in this heat over a number of days.

LOUIS BROWN: Yeah, the heat is -- and this many days. I never play this much golf. I work. I run a business. I'm not used to playing this much, working on my game. But it's a thrill to be here competing.

Q. How do you manage that then, to get in an event like this and do it over the course of a number of days? How have you managed to do it?

LOUIS BROWN: Yeah, like I say, just trying to take care of business. Physically I feel okay. Mentally maybe I've weakened a little bit, but feel okay. Mentally starting to get -- I started to get a little weary this afternoon, but I'll take care of that tonight.

Q. You had to come back this morning. You were down a couple and you rolled off three in a row and then he chipped in on you on the last hole and then you win in 19, and then this afternoon you've got to go the distance again.

LOUIS BROWN: Yeah, a lot of golf today. I didn't have my best stuff today really, but I had enough, and that's kind of how I would size it up. Hopefully I'll play better tomorrow. I'll probably need to.

Q. You've got some nice exemptions getting to the final. I don't know if you're aware of them.

LOUIS BROWN: I didn't know that.

Q. The Senior Open next year, Mid-Am next month if you want to play in it, and it then the U.S. Am next year and obviously the Senior Am at least three years. If you win, you get 10. I don't know if you've ever played the Senior Open?

LOUIS BROWN: No, I've never even tried to qualify for it. I'm a rookie guy. I have not. And the Mid-Am, I'll get to get in the gym between now and then.

Q. Because that's walking.

LOUIS BROWN: Well, that and just how far they hit it.

Q. Was there anything about this match this afternoon where it was a turning point? Both you guys hit it in the water on 16.

LOUIS BROWN: Yeah. It's been a long day, and I think we both just made bad swings there.

I think he and I both played sloppy golf today. I don't know that there was a turning point. I kind of got up on him and then he made some putts and got it back to square. Then I got back to 1-up and then back to even.

It was just one of those matches that you just have to keep fighting.

Q. You Georgia guys have done really well in this event.

LOUIS BROWN: Yeah.

Q. You're aware of it, Rusty Strawn and Doug Hanzel and Bob Royak recently, and I think there's been others. What is it about the Georgia guys and Senior Amateur golf that brings out the best in you?

LOUIS BROWN: Billy Mitchell has also played well in this tournament. We've got a tough state. We've got a lot of good players. I think that's what it is. We're strong. I guess we all feed off one another.
