FEDEX ST. JUDE CHAMPIONSHIP

August 17, 2024

Scottie Scheffler

Memphis, Tennessee, USA

TPC Southwind

Quick Quotes

Q. Do you feel like you played better than you scored today? You hit a couple of lips.

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I did hit a couple of lips, but I didn't feel like I was hitting it too good. There was times where I felt like I was getting away with some stuff, hitting some good pitches, making some good saves, but I felt like I hit a lot of lips today. But yeah, it happens.

Q. You still have a chance tomorrow. What's your mindset?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, it's a golf course where there's opportunity and there's a lot of trouble. It's going to be tough to close it out on the back nine. There's a lot of water coming down the stretch. So try to get off to a good start, and Hideki is obviously playing some fantastic golf, but do my best to put a little bit of pressure on him and see what happens.

Q. Anything you feel like you have to tighten up, clean up ahead of tomorrow?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Just get the ball a little bit closer to the hole and just hit -- give myself more opportunities. Today I felt like, like I said, I got away with some stuff, so hopefully clean it up a little bit and give myself a lot move opportunities today.

Q. Playing alongside Nick today, such a young guy, what impressed you about him?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: He's talented across the board. He hits it nice. He putts it really good. He's got a good short game, as well. He's got all the tools to be a great player out here, and you've obviously seen that so far this year with both of his wins. Yeah, he came out ready to play, and he's got all the talent in the world, and yeah, I think we're going to be seeing him for a long time.

Q. In Paris you talked about seeing the leaderboard at the turn on Sunday and how far back you were. Did you change anything to shoot 29 or some putts dropped? Did you play more aggressively because of how far back you were?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: At times I would be slightly more aggressive. I think of the approach shots I hit into 15 and 16 in Paris were definitely more shots that I would attempt when I'm pressing to catch the lead. If you saw me leading by two, three shots you probably would see the ball last past the pin on 15 and a little left of the pin on 16. But yeah, it changed the strategy a little bit. Going into tomorrow, I'll do what I can to put some pressure on Hideki, but if he goes out tomorrow and shoots another 5-, 6-under, he's going to be a pretty tough guy to catch.

But I'm definitely not totally out of the tournament.

Q. For you personally what's the most challenging part about this golf course?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I mean, I think staying committed to your shots. I think there's a lot of trouble out there on the golf course. There's a few holes where you can lose two shots really quick, which on a golf course where the scoring is fairly low, it can be really tough to shoot a low score when you're hitting balls in the water. It's being committed, staying aggressive while also striking the balance between staying aggressive and being patient out there and being committed to your shots.
