Quick Quotes
Q. Looks like a good score at the end of the day, no bogeys. Do you feel like you're playing better as the tournament goes on?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, today it's just nice to have a clean card. No bogeys, did a good job of having some nice up-and-downs to kind of keep the momentum and the round going. I holed a nice putt for par early in the round on 5 and then I had a couple nice chips after that getting it close to the hole making what could have been a stressful par into a pretty stress-free par with some nice pitches. Overall it was a pretty good day.
Q. What was it like when you got to 18 tee and you saw Meredith, Sam and the extremely tiny fan cheering you on?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, it was fun. Yeah, it's good.
Q. Your second shot at 16, what did you find by your ball?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It was some sort of bug, but I don't know exactly what it was, but it had wings, so I was able to kind of grab it and just kind of move it.
Q. You seemed entertained by it.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It was entertaining because I grabbed both of its wings very gently. I was able to grab it off the ball and it was trying to flutter as I had it by its wings so you could kind of feel it moving. I just wanted to make sure I put it away from my ball so it wouldn't be going back on my ball.
Q. Is this an easy course to go low on?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I don't think so. I think you've got to be playing some really great golf to shoot a low score. There's opportunity out there. The greens aren't super firm. You can attack when you're in the fairway. But there's a good amount of water on the course. The Bermuda rough can be tough to judge and there's a good amount of trees, as well. There's trouble around, so you've got to be really on top of your game to shoot low scores.
Q. In 112-degree heat index, why was Teddy walking all the way behind the 9th green --
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Honestly, as he was running up to the 9th green, I was thinking to myself, why is he doing that. I'm in the rough; I'm just trying to make sure I get it up there on the green. He wanted to make sure the number was correct on the green. It was. It was a good number.
Q. He didn't trust the book?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: He didn't trust the book, but by the time I thought about it, he was already up there on the green measuring the distance. He did that twice today; he did it on 2 and he did it on 9 and I guess he got tired because he didn't do it the rest of the day.
Q. You've had really good ball control over the two days. What's the hardest shot you feel like you faced?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Today I'd say one of the most difficult shots was probably the tee shot on 14, the par-3. The way the wind direction was when we were on that hole was down off the right, so for a hole like that it can be challenging because the green goes left to right, and with water short, your miss is left, and then with the pin actually being tucked up against a bunker, it can be challenging because that bunker shot is so difficult. So there really wasn't much of a bailout. You either had to really take on the pin or try to try to play short of that bunker and two-putt from long-range.
Q. Why didn't you kill the bug?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I didn't kill it. It was alive. I didn't think I was going to be able to catch it, and then when I did, I was like, I'm not going to kill it now that I caught it. So I just kind of let it fly away.
