U.S. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

August 15, 2024

Bobby Massa

Chaska, Minnesota, USA

Hazeltine National Golf Club

Quick Quotes

BOBBY MASSA: Probably like 25 feet. It was nice. Very nice to see that one go in after the others kind of burnt the edge.

Q. Burnt the edge on 18. You had one on 1.

BOBBY MASSA: Just couldn't seem to get the reads right. I felt like I was pure and I was hitting it good. I just couldn't quite get the read right.

I think the last one I had in regulation or my last match maybe, so I knew it broke a little more than it looked, and it just happened to find the bottom.

Q. How good was that driving down the stretch by you?

BOBBY MASSA: Very good, very good. I hit a lot of quality drives coming down the stretch. Other than 16 and 18 in regulation. After that, it was good. I found the slot, which was nice.

Q. This is a tournament that creates stars. We've lost a lot of top 10 amateurs the last couple of days in match play. Are you ready to potentially be a star?

BOBBY MASSA: Yes, I'll be happy to. I'm enjoying the moment right now, so I don't know what the future holds. Just happy to be here right now.

Q. What is it about the Mid-Ams at this tournament? Mid-Am wins medalist, you're into the quarterfinals?

BOBBY MASSA: I just don't play a whole bunch. I have a family at home. Any chance I get to travel, it's going to be a big event. This is the biggest one you can play in as an amateur. So this is why I'm one here.

Q. I hear you're a trainer for Fred Perpall, the USGA president?

BOBBY MASSA: Yeah, he hasn't been there in a while because he travels so much with all the USGA events going on. But when he's there, yeah, he comes and works out with me, so it's great.

Q. He says he's still trying to chase the speed that you have.

BOBBY MASSA: Some of it's God given, but he can definitely hit it a little farther with a little work.

Q. It's such a marathon day. How do you sum up, especially with you going 23 holes total to cap it off?

BOBBY MASSA: I'll be happy to find my bed, I'll tell you that. I'll be happy to take a shower and get in bed.

Q. What do you think your wife and family back home are thinking?

BOBBY MASSA: I'm sure they're over the moon right now. I wish they were here, but she's pregnant. We have another one on the way. She's holding it down at home, so it's great.

Q. What was the last thing you said to them before you left? Obviously love you, but like what was the last thing you said? Did you share maybe expectations?

BOBBY MASSA: Not really. They basically just told me -- or she told me to just come out and have a good time, so that's realistically what I was trying to do.

Kind of got it in a little bit of a rhythm and made some putts, and here we are.

Q. It's a pretty good time?

BOBBY MASSA: Yeah, it's a great time.
