Quick Quotes
Q. Could you just talk us through the whole thing.
CALUM SCOTT: I got off to a rough start the first four holes, three bogeys. Then I held my own and played some really solid golf through the last, I guess, 17 holes. A couple birdies in there on some tough holes, 11 and 12, then swung back the momentum.
Also hit a great shot into 15, put some pressure on him. He made a great birdie on 16. Then I made a great par on 17 to take it to the last. He had a chance to win and didn't make it. I finished the last to keep it going.
I gave myself really good chances on 1 and 2 but the balls didn't drop and won it on the 3rd.
Q. You said 11 and 12 there was a momentum shift. Could you talk a little bit more about that.
CALUM SCOTT: Yeah, so 10, 11, 12. I won on 10, and then 11 we both halved in birdies, but I made a great birdie there. It was nice to get half there. Then 12, I made birdie. It's one of the hardest holes on the golf course. So that was really good.
Then the match kind of went my way. He did get up again after 16, but I just stuck in there and hit the shots that I needed to and capitalized on it.
Q. Any key shots throughout the round, whether it was for par putts, anything that stood out to you?
CALUM SCOTT: Yeah, I think 18 I was in the left rough, and I managed to get it greenside and was able to get it up-and-down to save par. That was really key. Obviously 17, I had the honor of hitting a shot just short of the green. Just came in with a great shot for birdie. That was enough to win the hole.
Q. Obviously match play is a very different format from stroke play. Do you bring any kind of different mentality in?
CALUM SCOTT: Yeah, I think it's just got to be more aggressive. It's easier to commit, I feel like. There's a commitment thing. I think I'm just kind of focusing on really committing to my shots, and that's what's going to get me through.
Q. Obviously it's pretty windy today. Pretty windy where you're from. Do you think that's going to be an advantage at all through match play?
CALUM SCOTT: Yeah, I think so, definitely. The breeze got pretty strong there for a bit. It was gusting quite a lot. I think I've adapted really well to coming over here with no wind sometimes, but I'm able to play in both. Being able to go home during the summer and come here for college, I think I'm able to adapt and utilize the skills that I know I have for the wind.
Q. Lastly, a lot of time left this afternoon to kind of rest and recover. What are you going to do before your match tomorrow?
CALUM SCOTT: First of all, I'm going to eat. Then sit down for a little bit, get off my feet. Then probably going to go support one of my teammates.
