Q. What did you do on 18?

SHANE LOWRY: Hit my tee shot on 18 in the water. Pulled it.

Q. I think you spoke about this a little bit but just the concept of someone finishes fifth, that's still a good week but not this week.

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, look, the first couple of days, I played my way out of the tournament but yeah, it is a strange feeling because I said to the boys this morning, right, lads, two 63s and finish fourth. It's like, that's just sort of -- but you're still, as a pro golfer, you still have a lot of pride in what you do, and even I'm going out there this morning, I'm pretty much out of it, unless I shoot 8- , 9-under today. And I had a chance to do that at certain stages of the round; I had it going.

Yeah, it is a lot different because you know on a different week if you just make the cut, if I can finish top 10, there's plenty of FedExCup points available and all else goes with it.

Yeah, it is different. It is certainly different, yeah.

Q. This may be a really dumb one but you're feeling today compared to Thursday?

SHANE LOWRY: It's still good. Crowds are good. I can't believe the amount of Irish support I've had out there. It's been incredible. I said to Darren, not even doing well and they are still out there. It's pretty cool. I was in Tokyo, you were in Tokyo, as well, and let's be honest, it didn't feel like a huge tournament but COVID, COVID was weird.

But this certainly feels like one of the biggest tournaments in the world when you're here, which is pretty cool.

Q. What would you compare the crowds to? If you had to compare it with any tournament?

SHANE LOWRY: It's almost like Ryder Cup is a whole 'nother level, you know that, we've all been there. But I don't know how Victor Perez is doing and obviously Matthieu is not doing as good as he would like.

But it will be something to see what it's like out there tomorrow because there will be certain pockets of fans cheering for certain individuals.

I'd like to see Rory in there with a shout because it would be interesting to see what the Irish guys would be like. It would almost be like a mini-Ryder Cup but not -- you know what I mean, with all the different countries involved. Because there's going to be 20 people going out there with a chance to medal tomorrow.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see how it is because obviously I wasn't in Rio. I was in Tokyo and then this is a whole 'nother level.

Q. You're 10th in the FedExCup. Why are you going to Wyndham next week?

SHANE LOWRY: The Comcast top 10. I sort of saw -- I give you my reasoning. I was trying to make the decision over the last couple of weeks, because if I don't do as well in the The Open, I wasn't going to go and chase it. I don't like chasing stuff. But I also hate the unknown. I like to know what I'm doing and plan where I'm going, where I'm playing, what my family are doing because we are going back to Florida, school, everything and is starting back.

So our life needs to be in order. I sort of sat down with my coach and my team last week and were like, right, what's the best thing to do. I was like, look, there's only four weeks left in the FedExCup.

I think this is probably going to be one of the best chances I'll ever have to actually win the FedExCup so every point might count at the end of the day as well, not only for Comcast and if I can make a hundred FedExCup points next week or more, it's certainly going to help me along the way.

At the end of the day I have goal in my head where I want to be going into Atlanta and if I'm there, I think I'll have a shot of doing something cool.

Q. What's that goal?

SHANE LOWRY: If I can be in the top 10 going into Atlanta, I think I can give it a run. Obviously giving Scottie Scheffler a head short and Xander is not going to be easy.

Q. If you think about it, whatever lead he's got now, he's still two or three shots --

SHANE LOWRY: A thousand points ahead of me but if I go in in the top 10 I'm only a few shots behind him, I'm well into it. So I decided that if I enter, go play, and then I can go just put my head down for four weeks and try and do as best I can.

Q. You've never been to Denver?

SHANE LOWRY: No. I've never even been to Atlanta.
