Le Golf National

Quick Quotes

Q. Second round 68. Let's go to 18. Can you talk us through that hole, and specifically, what choices did you have for your third shot?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: It was 115 further down the green, front of the green is water hazard. I was kind of aiming -- I was aiming left of the pin to play safe but the wind hit ball harder and end up being in the water.

Q. You were in a very similar situation, two rounds in Tokyo, right in the mix. Did you learn anything in 2021 that you can apply throughout the weekend?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: I don't know what I can take from Tokyo but all do I is do my best to compete for the win.

When I was in the round, I didn't even think about what was good, what's working. I I'm really working hard to score lower but I think I had a good balance, many birdies in this one, so I do my best tomorrow.

Q. What is the game plan for tomorrow around this course?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: You know, weather, wind direction, it will change because the temperature goes down it looks like in the forecast. So I will think about that strategy tomorrow morning.

Q. What's the feel of this like, this Olympic experience for you, second time, how are you finding it?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: Olympics, it's enjoyable, joyful, but at the same time, it's tough competition. I see some difficult challenges, of course and I want to overcome those difficulties and I want to enjoy the final day by winning this.

Q. What is your confidence level on this golf course?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: When it's going harder, it's way difficult, blowing harder; the wind, it's way more difficult. So I have to handle the better tomorrow and in the final round.

Q. First time playing it?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: Yeah.

Q. Is there something you feel comfortable about? Holes? Greens? Putting?

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA: I have no thoughts when I'm playing. I just do my best moment by moment.
