U.S SENIOR WOMEN'S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

August 1, 2024

Alicia Dibos

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Fox Chapel Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Good playing today, even round. What was this course like today, especially with all the rain we've had?

ALICIA DIBOS: Well, it was actually playing very fairly. It was playing very nice. The front was actually my back because I started on 9, it was soft. The greens were a little slow. The fairways were beautiful.

As we made the turn, it got a little faster and the greens were quicker. The fairways are impeccable. I mean, the course is in wonderful shape.

Q. This afternoon that wave will probably see a faster and a drier course?

ALICIA DIBOS: Yes. Yes. No question. My first nine holes I was much hitting to the pin, and now on the back, or my front, it was more front edges and the ball was releasing much more. So it got harder and faster. The greens were faster, no question.

Q. What do you like about the way you played today? An even par-71 is going to be right up there with one of the better rounds today.

ALICIA DIBOS: Well, I'm proud of myself. I just said, stick with a routine and hit the best shots you can, shot by shot. Sounds cliche, but that's exactly what I did.

I made a couple of mistakes. I putted really well, but I made a couple of three-putts that I shouldn't have made, probably because the greens got faster and I went by.

I ended up missing a short putt. But overall I really putted well, so I cannot complain.

Q. Was there one or two holes that kept the round in good favor today for you?

ALICIA DIBOS: Yes. Actually it's that par-3, the 11th. I hit a great shot, and it went past the pin, and then it trickled down, all the way down, and I had like a five-footer, but still right to left. It was a very tough putt, but I made it.

Q. What club did you hit in there?

ALICIA DIBOS: I hit a 6-iron, kind of a gripped-down 6. But it was a great shot, but it went all the way back and came down. So that was lucky. I putted well, the long putts, I had some good pace, but I missed a couple of short ones. I three-putted twice.

Q. You have a real job --

ALICIA DIBOS: I do.

Q. You're an assistant professional at Winged Foot. How does that help you or hurt you, or how does it work in your favor as you prepare for a championship like this?

ALICIA DIBOS: Well, that's very nice for you to say, but I'm director of instruction, actually, at Winged Foot. I'm very proud of that position. Members are so wonderful. They know I'm going to play a U.S. Open, and actually last week, they got me out to play. I played with a member. I don't know if you know Joe Collins, but he said, let's go out and play because I work hard with the juniors, I have a job there, and my junior program is really good. I take pride in that. That's my job.

But in the meantime, in between lessons and things, if you play Winged Foot, really you can play anywhere.

Q. And that's both courses?

ALICIA DIBOS: Both courses, yeah. We played on the west, and we had a great round, just the member and I, and I really said that this was a perfect practice round for me because I haven't been able to play 18 holes. Maybe three or four times in the whole season.
