MARTIN SLUMBERS: Ladies and gentlemen, the leading amateur and winner of the Silver Medal, Calum Scott. And with a score of 275, the winner of the gold medal and the Champion Golfer of the Year is Xander Schauffele.

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Thank you, everybody. Just want to go through a few thank yous. I'd like to thank my entire family, my team, everyone on my team. They know who they are. It's been quite a journey.

I feel very honoured. Hearing your name called with "Open Champion" right after is something I've dreamt of for a very long time.

I'd like to thank Royal Troon for hosting. I was only able to watch the 2016 -- actually watched the highlight of Phil and Henrik to motivate myself for this week. I guess that paid off pretty nice.

I'd like to thank Billy McLachlan, his greenskeeping crew, everyone. I'm from San Diego, so I don't know how you guys manage this weather and make the course look as good as it does.

Congratulate Calum Scott. Great playing. I know you'd like to play better, but still low am this week, and wish you the best of luck your senior year at Texas Tech.

I'd like to thank the R&A, of course. You guys host a world-class event. All us players, we all feel very honoured to partake and play in this great tournament.

Last but not least, I've been in Scotland for two weeks now. The fans -- you guys have been amazing. You guys have made it feel like a second home for me, and I can't wait to come back.
