Press Conference
M. GIRON/H. Searle
3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Henry, tough one today. How were you feeling out on the grass today?
HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, I mean, it felt great in front of the home crowd and family and friends. It was a tough match against a strong opponent. He's good on grass and played really well today I thought.
I gave everything I had, but I didn't quite have enough to get the win.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. He's obviously 40 in the world, has had a great season. So how much confidence can you take from being so close to somebody like that?
HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, I mean, it gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season. And knowing that you can compete with guys at that level, yeah, gives you a lot of inspiration for the rest of the season and also the years after as well.
Q. The first set and second, I watched it with your group of mates for a bit, and they were roaring at every point, cheering at everything. I think your brother was there as well. They're from your local tennis club, aren't they?
HENRY SEARLE: Yeah.
Q. How amazing was it to have them there? Every point you won, they were roaring. I think your old coach was there as well. How was it having them there?
HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, it's great. It's amazing to have that sort of support. Not many other players have that.
Yeah, very lucky to have such a great group of family and friends. Yeah, it's amazing to have that support.
Q. What was the club called?
HENRY SEARLE: Newbridge Tennis Club.
Q. We've passed all Brits today. Andy pulled out today, which means his Wimbledon singles career is over. As a young Brit yourself, I just wondered how inspirational Andy has been for young British tennis stars like yourself.
HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, I'm sure everyone has watched him growing up and watched him win a couple of times here. It's amazing. It's an amazing achievement for anyone, especially for it to be a Brit is pretty inspiring as well.
Hopefully he can be out on the doubles court and give his farewell.
Q. How much does this experience whet your appetite to be back here next year?
HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, it's the goal to obviously play here every year. It's an amazing tournament. Yeah, I'm going to keep working and keep improving as much as possible, and hopefully I'll be back next year.
Q. What's next for you?
HENRY SEARLE: Well, I have doubles with Dan still this week. Yeah, we'll focus on that. I think it's going to be on Thursday, so focus on that.
Then, yeah, we'll take a look with the team after that.
Q. Just being around the grounds, how many special memories did that evoke from last year?
HENRY SEARLE: Yeah, I mean, it was amazing to be back this year and playing in the men's as well, yeah, just incredible. Thanks to the All England Club for the opportunity. It was great.
Yeah, gave my best today, and it was amazing in front of the crowd. Being here in general is an amazing feeling.
