Wimbledon, London, UK
Press Conference
E. NAVARRO/N. Osaka
6-4, 6-1
THE MODERATOR: Naomi, tough opponent today. Give us your thoughts on that match.
NAOMI OSAKA: I don't think it was the greatest from my end. But I was very grateful to play on Centre Court.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Despite today's result, what would you say was your proudest moment this grass season? You shared your excitement about your ranking going up. What else could you be like happy about or proud of that you achieved the grass season?
NAOMI OSAKA: I guess committing to playing as many grass tournaments that I can. I know I didn't end up playing the full schedule, but I tried to.
Yeah, I guess going into it I started to feel a lot more comfortable on grass.
Q. Are you excited after the Olympics to get back on the hard courts?
NAOMI OSAKA: Yeah, I think I definitely am excited to go back on hard courts. But I don't know, I'm a little disappointed because I wanted to do really well. I feel like I put a lot of time into it.
There's always next year, so...
Q. What impressed you about your opponent's game today?
NAOMI OSAKA: I think her backhands were really good.
Q. How would you describe the way she plays and what you think her future might hold?
NAOMI OSAKA: Oh, I think you might want to ask me this the next time you see me just because I'm the type of player, I kind of focus on myself a lot. I'm not really the person that analyzes the other person. I'm more like what did I do wrong today and stuff so...
If I see you next time, I'll give you a really good answer.
(Naomi's answers to questions in Japanese.)
NAOMI OSAKA: Honestly, I feel like even though in the beginning it was kind of like we were trading games, I don't know why, I didn't feel fully confident in myself. I didn't feel like I was playing that well. I guess, like, those doubts started trickling in a lot into my game. Obviously the second set wasn't that great.
I feel like for me, I don't know... I don't know why those thoughts were so prevalent, yeah.
I haven't really thought about it too much. Of course, I feel like, since I'm out so early, I really want to take the time and train for the Olympics because I do want to do well. I do know that my last clay court match was really good. So I might end up liking that surface a lot more than grass now (smiling).
As far as schedule, I don't really know too much yet. I think I'm just going to go home and, I guess, see what Shai is doing and then plan from there.
