THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 3, 2024

Jasmine Paolini

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

J. PAOLINI/G. Minnen

7-6, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Jasmine, how were you feeling out on the grass today?

JASMINE PAOLINI: Today was a little bit different. I think the court, Court 1, is a little bit faster. I needed to adapt a little bit, but I think then I played a really good match and especially in the second set.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. The match was really intense, and both of you had quite a similar level. How did you feel throughout the match? Like you said, the second set you played really well. How did you level up from that first set to the second?

JASMINE PAOLINI: I think I was adapting more with the surface because, as I said, I was a little bit surprised because the bounce was really low and the court was fast. I don't know if it's Court 1 or just the humidity because of the roof, you know.

So then I was feeling better and better. I think I was a little bit also more relaxed, let's say. So I was able to play better. Yeah, I think that's why.

Q. I've said many times before that your last year you dealt with a lot of tough draws. For instance, your first round here you were playing against Petra.

JASMINE PAOLINI: Two times in a row (laughing).

Q. Exactly. When we saw the draw, we were shocked. We couldn't believe it. Do you feel like those tough draws throughout last year has helped you a lot with your game this year because, I mean, I've seen the level. I've always felt like this year you're doing well, but do you feel like those have helped?

JASMINE PAOLINI: I don't know, but I think to be seeded means that you played some good matches during the year. I think it helps because the first two matches you don't play top players. Of course, you can play also good players that are not seeded, but it's a little bit different to step on court against Kvitova here.

She won two times I think. It's really tough, lefty. I was, like, no, two times in a row is impossible.

But, you know, I remember both two matches I was enjoying the grass. I said to myself, okay, I can play on this surface. It's tough, but the draw was tough, but I can play match against Petra.

Yeah, I don't know. This year I came in a different position. Yeah, I felt good in Eastbourne, and I guess I have been feeling good here, but every match is different. So let's keep the focus on.
