Press Conference
D. KASATKINA/Y. Miyazaki
6-0, 6-0
THE MODERATOR: Just a quick question. It's a day of mixed emotions. How are you feeling right now?
YURIKO LILY MIYAZAKI: Yeah, definitely mixed emotions, I would say. I think I definitely went through highs and lows of sport today. Yeah, I'm happy that I managed to get the win in doubles coming through such a close match in the end.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. How did you kind of go about resetting after the singles match to then produce a performance like that later on?
YURIKO LILY MIYAZAKI: Yeah, it was tough, I think, after the singles. I was, obviously, quite upset because it was quite a heavy defeat, I would say.
But, I mean, I knew I had a doubles scheduled, so I managed to switch my, kind of, focus onto that pretty quickly, and I just had my team around me at lunch. They kind of took my mind off of the singles, and I managed to focus on the doubles.
Q. Was it quite useful having another game to kind of keep yourself busy rather than sort of just an empty afternoon?
YURIKO LILY MIYAZAKI: I think so. Yeah, having a doubles was good for me. Yeah, I definitely did take my mind off the singles for a little bit.
Yeah, obviously, this morning I don't think I played great either, so it was nice to go out on the court again and try a few things out.
Q. Your first-round match you won quite comfortably within the hour, and then this morning happened. I just wondered what it was this morning that just didn't go well?
YURIKO LILY MIYAZAKI: I mean, firstly, she's a great player. I guess I'm not used to playing at that level either, but I think today when I got onto the court I was a little bit nervous. I think I never really settled in.
Then when you have those nerves, your feet don't really get going. Your arm is quite tight as well. I don't think I managed to play well. But then again, like I said, she's a great player, and it makes it really tricky. It was just really tough.
Q. What were the emotions afterwards?
YURIKO LILY MIYAZAKI: I would say, yeah, just really tough. I think to play on Court 18 was great to have that support. But yeah, it was just disappointing that I couldn't perform the way I would have liked.
Q. Obviously it's difficult, but is there anything you can take from it? Are there any positives or anything you can see as a benefit from it?
YURIKO LILY MIYAZAKI: Yeah, for sure. It's amazing to play against a player like Daria Kasatkina. I don't know if she's top 10 or around that level. So it's great to see what those top players do.
I think, yeah, there are so many things I can learn from it. Obviously things that I need to work on, so it's great that that match highlighted those things.
Q. The week as a whole, how do you reflect on that? I know you still will play, but in terms of singles.
YURIKO LILY MIYAZAKI: First round I played pretty well, so I'm happy with that performance. And having got my first main draw win at Wimbledon was great. Yeah, today was just a nice lesson that I got, I guess.
I'll take those learnings, and I'll go on to the training with my coach and things and work on, yeah, some things.
Q. You mentioned Court 18. How do you find being on a show court with the British crowd behind you? I guess hopefully for the rest of the time at Wimbledon you'll have that through the doubles.
YURIKO LILY MIYAZAKI: It was my first experience playing that. And I think, yeah, I was a little bit nervous. Even then, when I was losing, it was nice to have the crowd cheering you on and saying my name, things like that.
It's an experience that I really enjoyed.
