THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 4, 2024

Holger Rune

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

H. RUNE/T. Seyboth Wild

3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: How did you feel your level was out there today?

HOLGER RUNE: It was good. You know, first set was difficult. He played very freely, didn't make many mistakes, and put me under a lot of pressure. So definitely had to adjust on a few things, but I did, and I improvised. So I'm happy with the victory.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. How does it feel to play on Court 18? It's quite an intimate court. I was watching the match, and you were getting the crowd going for you, especially after the first set. Do you enjoy playing on those courts, or do you enjoy playing on the big show courts as well?

HOLGER RUNE: Both. I honestly think Court 18 was a good court to play on. It was a good atmosphere. People were close. They were intense. They were loving it in a way. So it was a good feeling for sure.

But for sure I prefer playing on Centre Court. It's a different feeling, but yeah, it's good. I just focused on the match like I did in the first round and, yeah, just went by it.

Q. Do you fell at home at Wimbledon on the grass compared to other slams? What do you think is different about the atmosphere here compared to other places?

HOLGER RUNE: Yeah, I'm from Denmark, so weather is the same (laughing). That makes it easier for me for sure.

There's a lot of Danish people as well over here, so I feel great atmosphere. I feel great support from the people, and I think that the courts are amazing.

The whole venue is incredible, very historical. It's, honestly, a privilege to be here on this venue because so much history and enjoying it.

Q. The other day you mentioned you enjoy the comparisons between yourself to Carlos and Jannik with obviously Roger, Rafa, and Novak. What would you say you would take from perhaps Jannik's and Carlos's game and put into your own, and what would you give to them? Because you all learn from each other, the big three, what would you like to learn from, obviously, your rivals at this time?

HOLGER RUNE: I mean, I don't think I said we are the big three. That's a bit wrong, I think.

I've heard the last few month or the last year that people have been talking about it. That's the only thing. As I said also before, that it's really positive, to be honest, that people even start to talk about it because, obviously, it's a long way before you can call anyone anything.

Yeah, Alcaraz is physically amazing. I think he is moving incredibly well, reading the game good. Sinner is a great ball striker; forehand, backhand super strong. I have good volleys. I read the game very well I think.

I think we all have qualities. At the moment Alcaraz is the one leading with the Grand Slam, but yeah, let's see in 15 years who is leading.

Q. You're playing Quentin Halys in the next round. What are you looking for in that match? What are the key aspects to it? Obviously, he has beaten Karen today in a very tough five-set match, and Karen is a great opponent to play against. What are you looking for ahead of that one?

HOLGER RUNE: Yeah, good win for him for sure. Karen is a difficult player. Yeah, he must have some confidence beating Khachanov.

I know him a little bit. I practiced with him few times I think. Big serve, good forehand. Good grass court playing I would say in general. I think it suits him well.

Definitely got to study him a little bit statistically and watch some videos of him and just prepare like I always do for the matches really. Get a good practice tomorrow, good recovery, good night of sleep, and be ready to compete.
