Press Conference
J. SINNER/B. Shelton
6-2, 6-4, 7-6
THE MODERATOR: Jannik, through to the quarterfinals. Must be feeling pretty good.
JANNIK SINNER: Yes, very happy to be again in the quarters. Also a very tough match today. He served really well, as we all know. Happy to win in straight sets. Let's see what's coming.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Are we going to see more between-the-leg shots in your upcoming matches?
JANNIK SINNER: I don't think so. I'm not kind of player to have a lot of trick shots.
But in this case was still the easiest shot. I didn't have space to go right and left. Was lucky shot.
Q. Next you're going to play Daniil because Grigor withdrew. What are your thoughts about your history with him and how you've turned around the matchups from when he was winning every one and now you've won every one in recent times?
JANNIK SINNER: No, I still think that every match has its own story, especially I felt like in Australia we had two different matches in one match. It's going to be tough for both of us.
I practiced with him earlier in the week. He was playing really good. So it's going to be tough. I'm looking forward to it. Again, it's a big challenge for me.
But this is what I practice for. Hopefully it's going to be a good match.
Q. May I ask what the key is in your mind when you face him?
JANNIK SINNER: I think the key is a little bit different because the surface is different. We have to see. I think for both of us it's going to be very important how we serve. On grass, it's the most important shot. Then we see.
It's going to be for sure some long rallies, physical match. This I know already. I hope to be ready.
Q. You seem to have read his serve very well today. Is there a percentage that you're guessing at it sometimes?
JANNIK SINNER: Well, against big servers sometimes you have to guess, especially in important moments. Tiebreak was tough 'cause I was up 5-2, 5-3. I was ready, I missed a shot. I was 5-6 down. Some momentum change, a small one. But I could lose the third set and then everything can happen on fourth and fifth potentially.
I'm happy how I handled the situation. It was obviously very, very tough to play against him, one of the best servers we have on tour, very aggressive player.
I'm happy how I returned today. Yeah, I think that's for sure one of the keys today.
Q. You mentioned the return. In general, is there anything you're particularly happy about your game at the moment? If so, why?
JANNIK SINNER: I don't know. I feel like that at important moments in each game, in each match, I try to put full effort. I feel like this sometimes can make the difference.
Obviously you need courage to go for certain shots. I'm pushing myself to do that. Sometimes you can miss the shot; sometimes it's the right decision.
I feel like this one of the key points for until now here in Wimbledon, then let's see what's coming now.
