Wimbledon, London, UK
Press Conference
B. KREJCIKOVA/D. Collins
7-5, 6-3
THE MODERATOR: Danielle, give us your thoughts on a disappointing day for you.
DANIELLE COLLINS: Yeah, I had a good tournament overall. I played some good tennis. Not the result that I wanted to have. Overall a great experience and some great memories here at Wimbledon.
Yeah, obviously a bit bummed, too, about what happened physically during the match, so...
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. What was the injury? Your thigh or...
DANIELLE COLLINS: It's the back of my leg. I actually haven't had time to get it checked out yet because I had drug testing after. It was taking me a while to be able to go to the bathroom. Obviously with the commitments with that and commitments with media, that is I guess last priority (smiling).
It's the back of my leg right now. I don't have any more information on it 'cause that's taken a backseat for now.
Q. You played good tennis. I was at the San Diego semis you played. What makes it a good matchup, you two?
DANIELLE COLLINS: Yeah, I think I have a pretty aggressive game style. I think Barbora has great variety in her game. She's a solid mover. I am usually a solid mover. We both have strong serves and returns.
I felt like when the match was at its highest level, it was a lot of back and forth because she was serving well and I was serving well.
So, yeah, I think we just end up playing some really good tennis against each other. I think with how aggressive I play, it forces Barbora to have to come up with some great tennis to be able to counter that.
I feel like it was really nice to see her playing at her best level today.
Q. Did the injury affect your movement? If so, when did that start to affect you?
DANIELLE COLLINS: Yeah, I think it was 2-1 in the second set. I wasn't thinking critically about every step that I was taking. It's amazing how I think on the grass, how much the movement is in your mind and you think about every little step that you take.
I feel like I stopped thinking about that for one second, and I ended up hurting my leg. So that was pretty frustrating, really disappointing.
I feel like obviously there's been a ton of injuries on the grass, left and right. It seems like people are going down. I am I guess frustrated that I feel like I was focusing on my tactics and kind of what I needed to do to play at a high level.
Usually I feel like on other surfaces you're not having to think so critically about your movement. The one second I take my mind off of it, not think about every little thing I'm doing with my footwork, it ends up happening.
Q. You said this is your last year, your last Wimbledon. How does it feel? Your memories or thoughts about Wimbledon?
DANIELLE COLLINS: Yeah, this is one of my favorite tournaments. I just think the historical preservation, what they do here is so, so special. It's one of the most special events in sports history.
I always love coming here. I feel the warmth from the people who put so much effort behind this event really make it what it is. It is just one of the coolest experiences you can get to have as an athlete, being able to come and compete here.
It's been an honor to be able to play at Wimbledon main draw for the last few years. I think I only had to go through qualifying once. I've had some amazing memories on court with friends, like Desirae Krawczyk. We made semifinals here a few years ago. Playing with one of my best friends, Alison Riske.
Yeah, just incredible, incredible memories here. I think this is a lot of players' favorite slam. It's certainly up there for me. I will miss coming here, but also excited for the next chapter of my life.
