Quick Quotes
Q. The way this came together at the end was so exciting. Sergio, what does it feel for this moment to happen here at Valderrama?
SERGIO GARCIA: Obviously individual for me, it's a dream come true to do it on my favorite course in front of my family and friends and in front of my teammates. But to even make it even better by winning the team championship, too, it was amazing. So proud of these guys, the way they played. It's a tough course, so it was hard. Very, very proud of what we were able to achieve today.
Q. When I talked to you yesterday when you finished your round, you said the team is only four back and that's /SUR mountable, and I said what about you individually, and you said, I think it's too many strokes.
SERGIO GARCIA: Well, I knew how difficult this course was, and I thought this morning actually when I was talking to Matt, I told him, well, let's try to shoot 5-under and see what happens. Funny enough, I three-putted the last to shoot 5-under.
But obviously I played extremely well today. Things happened like it didn't yesterday, but today it did. And to top it off, we both won our Playoffs.
It was obviously a dream come true, Alcaraz winning, we've got the final of the Euros tonight, so hopefully we can make it the best day ever.
Q. David, it was a tough weekend, but the last hole you birdie and the team needed it the most. Were you watching the leaderboard? What was happening in that moment?
DAVID PUIG: Yeah, a little bit. I knew I needed a couple birdies to finish, and I'm glad I birdied the last two.
Yeah, just feels nice because the first round was pretty miserable for me, but I kind of bounced back to help these guys, and like Sergio said, it's a dream come true to win here in Spain with them.
Q. Abe, you had a birdie on your last hole, as well. How aware were you of where the team was and what was going on with Sergio?
ABRAHAM ANCER: I was very aware. I was looking at leaderboards on every hole I could. It was a roller coaster of emotions the last three holes for me because I was feeling that I needed to make some birdies to help out the team.
I knew individually I was not going to have a chance to win, but obviously I want to finish as high as possible every time.
Last I ended up chipping in from a very tough spot on 6, but before that I made a mess out of hole 5, I made a double, and I knew that was going to hurt the team tremendously. So emotions got the best of me on that hole. I feel like you don't see very often when I kind of get that mad, but it just came out of me.
Thankfully I bounced back with my birdie because I knew it was going to be big for the team.
Q. Eugenio, what does it mean to win on this golf course as a team in your home country, in Spain, at Valderrama?
EUGENIO CHACARRA: Yeah, like they said, it was a dream weekend for all of us. Super happy for Sergio. He's been up there a lot, and he's been playing at a high level for 20 plus years. It's really nice to see it from close every single day, and so happy for him that he got it done, what he said, on his favorite course, and happy for these guys, too.
I think we're a great team. We're all really good players, and I'm happy that I'm finally playing good golf again and I'm helping them with some good scores.
Q. Sergio, you've come so close to winning the individual, and Baan lost in such a heartbreak fashion. How tough is it to win at golf?
SERGIO GARCIA: It is hard. I lost two tough ones this year. I've lost a lot of tough ones throughout my career. I kind of felt like -- I wouldn't say I lost it on 3 with the three-putt, but I felt like I played hard and I was still very happy about everything that I did today to give myself at least a shot. Obviously when I found out that Baan bogeyed the last and we were in a playoff, I was like, well, we have another shot.
I've been in playoffs at this course before, and I know how difficult that 18th hole is. I just tried to hit good shots and give myself birdie putts, and that was good enough.
