THE AMUNDI EVIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

July 12, 2024

Mi Hyang Lee

Evian-les-Bains, France

Evian Resort Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Mi Hyang, three shots better than yesterday. You tied at the top of the leaderboard as it stands. How did the conditions prepare this morning to yesterday afternoon?

MI HYANG LEE: I think of course it's way more softer because we had a little rain this morning, but I'm glad we finished with the sunny weather because supposed to really heavy rain and thunder. So I just glad to finish in time 18 holes.

And also, I think my putt was more like dropped and my driver was like save six fairways only. I think my iron shot was more better today, so I made more chance to make the putt. Yeah.

Q. You've played in this championship in previous years. You obviously like it here. What is it that really suits your eye?

MI HYANG LEE: Here is my favorite golf course and favorite tournament as well. I have really lots of good memory with Evian Championship.

So I always love to back here to play, and also -- but I have just two more days left so just try do my best. I know I have experience playing final group on final round. So hopefully that experience help me.

Q. 7-under overall total. Welcome back to the Amundi Evian Championship. What was the game plan heading into today?

MI HYANG LEE: Just I thought will be heavy rain today and then like wet conditions the golf course, so just keep fairway first then I can go more aggressive from the fairway to the pin because like green going to be so soft.

But sun is coming and then I like pretty much same condition as yesterday, so I just tried to same as yesterday, and I think my iron was more better today so I had more chance to close to the putt.

So I think that's different.

Q. Walk me through some of the highlights out there. What birdies stick out to you the most and also that eagle that you had as well?

MI HYANG LEE: I know. So No. 6 was like pin -- I mean, today pin location was I thought really hard, so 6 was -- I was lucky. I mean, just made the green right of the pin and then I just make the birdie. Then like turn the moment, started to make the birdie as well.

And also it was great like chip-in eagle No. 9; it was almost 30 yards. I try like bump in a little bit but it was made it.

And No. 10 was as well. I hit the rough at the left and just landed before the green, bounced up, three feet, so it was lucky today.

Q. You talked about on TV how this is one of your favorite courses to play. Why is it one of your favorite?

MI HYANG LEE: So back to 2013 it was almost like my rookie year, so I was I think my ranked was 107, 108, but so they started major with Evian maybe 2013, so they increase for the more -- the player can play this tournament, so I was last get in, and I made tie 16 or 17, so I made top 100, so don't need any Q-School, Q-Series.

So it was good start for my memory with Evian, and also like 2015, 2016, I just play with Lydia when she won here. Yeah, was my just great experience like playing the last group, final round.

So it was -- I mean, I don't know why, but like really like view is great, and then hotel is great, everyone, like volunteers is great, and everyone is so kind of us, too. This is my favorite golf tournament, yeah.

Q. We've talked a couple times this year. I know the place you were in when fighting through your injuries. To show what you've been able to show over the last two days here at a major championship, what does it say about the work you've been putting in over the last couple months to produce what you've done this season?

MI HYANG LEE: So was good start season for me, but I think after that, I tried to think try to do something, that's why a little more stress on the golf course as well.

But I took a little break last week and I went Italy and Spain with my dad. It was first time ever, so no practice at all. It was really refresh to me.

So then this week as I tried to like shot by shot one at a time, so that worked, yeah.

Q. Where do you in Spain and Italy?

MI HYANG LEE: Madrid and Barcelona and Rome. Yeah, it was beautiful.

Q. We don't necessarily get time to do that a lot. A lot of the time we're playing week after week after week.

MI HYANG LEE: Uh-huh.

Q. What does a refresh like that do for you knowing that there is a busy summer ahead?

MI HYANG LEE: So actually, this is major tournament, like really no -- I mean, it's really I think maybe someone says a little too stupid no practice before the major.

But my dad, he wants to give me the little more refresh time. He says like it's too much going on before this, so he said like, don't be worried about your practice. Just trust yourself and maybe just good time to traveling to Europe.

We just don't have any time before Evian because we always play the Dow, right? So was glad to like (indiscernible.)

Actually, he's getting old as well, so it's great timing to traveling with him. So it was great memory to me.

Q. What do you hope to build off after a nice Friday like you saw today?

MI HYANG LEE: Hopefully more just dropped putt. I miss a lot of good birdie chance as well. And then driver, hopefully more fairways as well. Simple. Same. I don't want to try anything.

Just hopefully same as today.
