Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Here with Team Ping Pals, Jennifer and Ally. Take us through the day, what was working so well, especially that eagle on 3?

ALLY EWING: Yeah, we just played consistent golf. I think we got off to a good start with two birdies in the first three. I think we tried to hit a lot of greens. We're both pretty consistent. Just kind of trusting each other and knowing our games and able to roll in some putts, and certainly a 3 on a par-5 is always going to help, with only two out here.

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, what she said, just staying consistent. We have very similar games, both in putting speed, what we usually leave ourselves. It's kind of just stress-free golf is really what we are trying to do, and I think we were successful in that.

Q. What was maybe some of the strategies you guys implemented coming into today? Who was playing the odds? Who was playing the evens?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I was playing the odds, she was playing evens. I don't know if there was a whole lot of strategy. She wanted the evens, so I was like, all right, cool, sounds good. Just going out and having fun and trusting each other.

Q. You guys have mentioned a lot of fun. What is it about this tournament that's fun?

ALLY EWING: I think it's a nice change of pace. We just came from a golf course that's a mental and demanding golf course, and you get to play partner golf, which is something that we don't get to do a whole lot. This course is a fun course to play in this format, so it's just a nice change of pace, especially at this point in the year. It's kind of probably the midway point, and it's nice to just kind of have something a little bit different and be able to lean on each other to play.

Q. This is very much a Solheim Cup team here. What were maybe some of the conversations you had to get this team together?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I asked her about 20 times, and then she finally said yes.

ALLY EWING: Yeah, that was basically it, but I'm really happy to be here. We have played Solheim. We've never played together, so it's been fun kind of knowing that our games are very similar to put them up together. Maybe a potential future pairing. We'll see.

Q. What is it about this course that suits both your strengths?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I think it's just a scorable golf course. When I get out there, I kind of see every hole as a birdie hole, which I feel like on most golf courses that's not necessarily the case. I think it's just very scorable, and it's a shot-maker's golf course with a lot of wedges, as well. I think it kind of sets up to both of our games.

ALLY EWING: Yeah, I think, too, par-5s are usually scoring holes, so with only two out here, us relying heavily on our good ball-striking, it kind of makes us feel like we've got a lot of par-3s and par-4s out there that we can take advantage of.

Q. Any change in strategy for tomorrow's four-ball?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: We haven't really talked about it, but I think just continuing to give ourselves birdie chances. If we have two putts on every hole, chances are something is going to roll in.

I think just giving ourselves chances and seeing what we can do.

ALLY EWING: Yep. Ditto.

Q. Jennifer, as someone who's won this event before, what is it about this course that just kind of allows you to play your game and really take advantage of some of these opportunities?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I think it's just -- I can birdie every hole. Like I said before, I think it's just scorable. Just go out there and be comfortable shooting at pins and being aggressive.
